Welcome to the Men's Night 2010 Season
Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot...Jul 8, 2010 | Posted by Steve McNalleyWhen I volunteered to write this week’s edition I was hoping for a little guidance from Pat on what my parameters were. These days Pat is knee deep in lawyers (or as he would say, Dino deep in lawyers) so we weren’t able to discuss what I would write. Seems that Pat is suing Donald Trump for stealing his hairstyle or as Pat calls it "Patscaping". Now if you want anything in common with The Donald it should be the wallet. This is not lost on our own Donald, Gentleman Extraordinaire, Don Pritlove. This guy has been rolling in dough for years. When you deal with such a bright businessman you have to read the fine print. Recently, I played a little Nassau game with Don. Predictably, I lost. Unable to start my car I wandered into the lounge to pay off my losses. Handing me back my spark plugs, Don leaned across the table, the scent of a freshly baked Krispy Kreme on his breath, and advised me that I had agreed as part of the bet to buy him a drink every Friday, among other things. Among other things? Folks, always read the fine print……. oh, and if you see a bird or the local Starbuck’s owner near Don’s car please chase them away. Turns out Tuesdays are my days to detail Don’s car. With so many members looking as if they had just completed the Indy 500 on a tricycle it was good to see our impeccably dressed Pro. Every time I see Bruce the first thing that comes to mind is what nice duds Golftown is selling this year. Joining me this week was John Horan, Captain of Team 6. As John refuses to tire of telling me, he spent a considerable amount of time scouting for the draft to the point of playing two rounds a day. Two good moves John made were drafting a Chiropractor (Mike Feijo) and a Personal Trainer (Ron Mourra). These new members have done a great job for the team. In John’s first Email to his team he told everyone that he had drafted a couple of guys who could help their teammates get through the physical nature of a long season. Imagine John’s dismay the next Wednesday when he saw Mike and Ron in a cart. The Chiropractor with a tight back and the Personal Trainer too tired to walk nine holes. No doubt next year John will draft health care professionals to keep the health care professionals healthy. On this sweltering hot day when swamp ass and fat men pulling wet underwear out of their butt cheeks was rampant on the course, the Team # 6 and Team # 11 juggernauts continued to run rampant moving to 7 and 1 records. Team # 5, with a 6 and 2 record, is hot on the heels of these teams only a few points back of Team 6 due to their awesome participation levels. Team # 5 is an example of how important participation is to each team. Tied for second place with one less win and only four points back is sweet. Apparently Captain Paul Johnston has threatened to explain the draft process to anyone who doesn’t show up. For the week, Captain Jeff Shannon’s Team # 7 was the big winner with Teams # 10 and # 12 finishing in a tie close behind. Great showing guys as those were some terrific numbers in the heat. Nate Lockey and Jim Chapman each put up magnificent gross scores of 33 followed closely by Michael Hurley at 34 and Rob Grinton at 35 with quite a few 36’s and 37’s on the board. How often do you get to shoot 10 shots below the temperature? On the net side, Joe Cohoon put up a great 30 with Rick Oldenburg, Ron Davey and Todd Stanbridge coming in with slick scores of 31. Looking at the individual awards, the closest to the hole shots on #3 (Alan Iskiw) and #8 (Wilf Hogeveen) were very tight. Now we all know Men’s Night is all about heaping scorn and ridicule on others. The number one question the closest to the hole winners hear is………."did you make the putt?". It might be time to consider adding a notation under the closest to the hole winners showing if they did or didn’t make the putt. That two foot slider just got harder…. Also impressive was the putt Robert Sells made to win the Rizzo Long Putt. It is always good to see Mike and Robert Sells out playing together. Mike has told me that it never goes wrong when a father and son bond together. Mike needs to Google pre-war Iraq.
2010 BRANTFORD INVITATIONAL I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this but I really wanted to include something about the recent Brantford Invitational. The event was always extremely well run and well supported by the club and its members. I, along with several other BGCC members had the privilege of playing in this year’s version and it was, as expected, very well run. Thanks very much to Jeff Barclay and Bryan Monster for getting this important event back on the schedule. My hope for 2011 is that I get an email asking me to step aside for a more qualified entrant. Anyway, thanks for reading and bear in mind that Pat is still looking for assistance with the weekly articles. His fellow committee members have done a fine job helping out this year but we owe him a debt of gratitude for this league. It’s nice to see him out playing more often this year even if he has been seen running around screaming "it’s the summer of Pat, the summer of Pat". Clearly, it is important that we get him the help he needs.
Ciao,
