Welcome to the Business Women's League 2008 Season

What a season!

Sep 23, 2008 | Posted by Cheryl Wakefield

On September 16th, 2008 the weather cooperated and the Business Women enjoyed a super closing day event with fabulous sunshine, yummy food and great fellowship among friends.

A big thank you to my team captains - Sharon Grant, Lynda Sinclair, Lori Chisholm, Sherry Paling, Carol deVille and Jan Hall for all their help this season in championing a team, sharing their opinions and helping with regular events.   The captains are looking forward to their annual dinner night on October 4th at Lori Chisholm's house.   Along with great food and drink, we will review the season and plan for next year.

We are on the look out for team captains for the 2009 season.    If you are interested in being a captain and would like more information or if you have any feedback or suggestions for next year, please drop me an email at cwakefield@nas.net

I am left speechless by the power of word from my Communications Director - Sherry Paling.  Thank you Sherry! .......for keeping us informed throughout the season and for adding some spicy humour.

It has been a super season.  72 different women played this season.  We had 12 team nights.  46 playsers came out 6 nights or more.  There were 474 - 9 hole rounds of golf played by Tuesday Night Business Women on team nights.    We went to Galt and Beverly this year and our Summer Solstice Event continues to be a resounding success!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the group for the restaurant gift certificates.   I look forward to a relaxing dinner at Milestones........... nothing to plan or organize........just how am I going to get myself there and back.  I'm sure Pat will have something to do with this.    Thanks for the super season.  I have enjoyed every moment!

The Business Women have given a $50.00 donation to junior golf on behalf of Brian Goodman who has done a super job on tuesday nights at setting us off on the right tee every tuesday!

Business Women's Annual Awards  (birdie tree, ringer board and handicap reduction award) will be announced at Women's Closing day dinner on Thursday October 2, 2008.  I hope to see many of you there!

Tonight's the Night!

Aug 26, 2008 | Posted by Sherry Paling (Director of Communications)

Here I am late blogging again! (Don't tell Cheryl) This is a big week, some of us have just come off the Tour Event at Galt last Tuesday night for the exchange. A super time was had by all in attendance & we look forward to them facing the challenge of Brantford.  We host the Wild Galt Gang on Tues Sept 2nd for a Shotgun Start at 5:15. (Cheryl, Jan and Lynne .. try to be on time for this one) They were late for the Galt shot gun as they were celebrating Lynne's Hole in One from earlier in the day. Congrats to Lynne Stewart!

Tonight "Sharon's Baron's" are taking on the Leader's in the League "Lynda's Ladies of the Links". The "Chisholm Crushers" are looking to move up in the standings by crushing "Jan's Jammers". The "Chisholm Crushers" are out to make their mark tonight!

The real competition tonight though is between "Carol's Cobra's" and "Paling's Pros". A long standing rivalry continues (Okay, year 2 of Sherry gloating over Carol). Go Team 4!!    Notice my creativity in the name department kind of died after "Sharon's Barons", what do you expect from a bean counter in the literary department.

Check out the prize money department ... I know who to borrow from! Congrats on their stellar play to get them to the top of the leader board and all TIED with $18 per are: Carolyn Grinton, B.J. Campbell, Debbie Campbell, Prima Lesperance, Dianne Brown

Dates worthy of note:

Tues Sept 2nd we host Galt for a modified Shot Gun followed by dinner and festivities.

Tues Sept 16th “I’m sad to say, we are on our way and won’t be back for many a day” ... words of the Harry Belafonte tune, Jamaica Fairwell. It is the Business Ladies Closing Night!

Thurs Oct 2nd the Official Ladies Closing where we are welcome to golf or just attend the dinner for those working ladies.

Recognition for Nicole Vandermade

Aug 12, 2008 | Posted by Sherry Paling (Director of Communications)

Ladies,

We have been asked by our Golf Captain Brenda Sawchuk to participate in a brief recognition award being given to Nicole Vandermade this evening at 8pm following our round.  (I always do what Brenda tells me)

Nicole Vandermade is 18 and plays out of our club (a native of Brantford).   On July 10th she captured her first Investors Group Ontario Women’s Amateur title, and her second provincial win this year. The Junior Spring Classic champion bested five time champion and two day leader Mary Ann Lapointe by one stroke at the Bay of Quinte Country Club near Belleville.  She started the her final round trailing Lapointe by two strokes, but put the pressure on early in the day with a birdie on the first hole and consistent play that didn’t see a single bogey on her scorecard.  (I dream about such a score card J )

Nicole, who is heading to the University of Texas next fall, is no stranger to performing under pressure having won the Marlene Streit International Championship and the Ontario Tournament of Champions last season.

Please ljoin us to toast and congratulate this young lady from our club in her both her past accomplishments and future successes at 8pm tonight!

Team 4 Wins Last Week!

Aug 11, 2008 | Posted by Sherry Paling (Director of Communications)

Week of July 29th was a proud moment for me as Captain of Team 4 as we played a stellar game against Sharon Grant’s Team 1. The team was victorious as the low scorer for the week for the entire league. It is totally out of character for me to BRAG to the other Captains but might be inclined to stir it up a bit. Stellar play from Audrey, Michelle and Deb was greatly appreciated but the awesome team turnout of a total of 9 players was the key to our success. Please keep up the participation!

This week we take on the current leaders in the club house Team 2 (Lynda Sinclair). My team has been practicing and is up to the challenge. Teams 6 (Jan Hall) & Team 1 (Sharon Grant) are tied for second place with Team 4 closely on their heels. Depending on the next few weeks of play, second place is up for grabs. Team 3 (Lori Chisholm) is in 5th place with Team 5 (Carol de Ville) currently at the back of the pack.

Worthy of note is we are averaging over 40+ ladies weekly and the key to success is to be ready and willing to go off front and back 9’s as Brian directs us. Kudos to Brian for getting us organized efficiently into groups. Don’t forget your toonie!

Note some upcoming dates:

Tues Aug 19th we are hosted by Galt at the Galt Country Club. The sign-up sheet is up & as this is a limited participation night. Shot gun start with dinner to follow.

Tues Sept 2nd we are hosting the girls of Galt always a fun evening to showcase our course, our facility and our league. Make some new friends too!

Tues Sept 16th "I’m sad to say, we are on our way and won’t be back for many a day" ... words of the Harry Belafonte tune, Jamaica Farewell. It is the Business Ladies Closing Night!
