Welcome to the Men's Night 2010 Season
2 week left....Jul 29, 2010 | Posted by DerekIt seems like every Men’s League Wednesday we have been pounded by rain. Though we need the rain, I am sure that most of the 99 players would agree that it should have come on a different day. Brian Cross, Jeff Hurst and Bill “Long Ball” Jones each posted a 2 under par 35 which tied for low gross honors for the week. With only 2 weeks left in the regular season, the race for the top is heating up. The Beers Boys are making a late season move up in the rankings by taking 3rd place overall from Fazers Lazers. While up at the top, Up N Down still hold a solid lead above 2nd place Fingrz and Toes. Here are the current standings:
This week we again saw a tie for first place. Both Burlington’s Best and Fingrz and Toes come in with scores of 2 under par 220. Long Ball Jones with his 67 mph swing speed proved you don’t have to be long to play well. His 35 led the team in gross followed behind by Bill Dayman posting a 2 over 39 on the front. Al Dolan zipped around the front 9 at 8:30pm armed with his clubs and miners light in order to help his team. He along with Paul Rowe posted 2 under par 35 net scores, while Gary Browne, I mean Gary Ross, and Rick Street posted net scores of 37 and 39 respectively. Poor Gary Burlew was the only useless bastard for the team. Even with his non-effort he will still walk away with $51 in sweeps as will the rest of the team who came out.
As for our other first place team, Fingrz and Toes, first overall draft pick Brian Cross has lived up to his expectations. He matched Long Ball’s 35 to lead his team in the gross department while Fraser McClellan posted a one over 38 to round out the top gross scores for the team. Mike Hribljan was the only net player under par posting a 36. DSG decided not to take a lesson from his pro this week and went out and shot an even par 37 net, says a lot eh! Stan Seneco and Tom Schofield each shot even par net scores as well. Fingrz and Toes walked away with $35 each.
Third place also saw a tie this week. Three teams came in with a 1 under par 221. Top team overall Up N Down, The Beers Boys, and Goosens Gang all tied. Each team received $5, $7 and $9 respectively. I must also mention that Doug And The Slugs almost come through with their first win the 2010 season. I am sure the team is primed now to come through.
Thanks again for another great week…..

Standings for Men's Night 2010
3 Weeks to go.....
Jul 22, 2010 | Posted by Derek
Yesterday was another sweltering day at the BG & CC and 124 players made it out to brave the heat. The conditions were no match for Pat Donnell who fired a mind boggling 34 to end up with a 29 net on the outward 9. This score dropped his handicap from 5 down to a 2 for next week. Enjoy being a 2 now Mr. Donnell. Mike Fernie again claimed low gross with his second consecutive 33 on Men’s Night. As for the teams, Up N Down extended their season long lead to 13 points over second place Fingrz and Toes. Here are the current standings for the season.
Standings for Men's Night 2010
As for the weekly cash we had a tie for first this week. Both the Walkabouts and Up N Down recorded scores of 5 under 217. In his second week back, Andy Jeffery continued his strong play by shooting a solid even par 37 to lead his team in the gross. Matt “The Sloth” Semkowski followed close behind with a 39 on the front. Guess those 23 hour work week gives him time to work on his game. Mike Myskiw, Barry O’Brien, David Griffiths, and Adrian Jayne all contributed with net scores below par. Their team walked away with $40 in sweeps.
Also at 217 was Up N Down, who continued to shoot solid scores and bank dough for their efforts. Tom Brain maneuvered his way around the front 9 in just 36 strokes followed close behind by Dr. 2 A Day with a nice 2 over 39. These gross scores were complimented by Peter Weber, Glen McLeod, Mike Macey and Bruce Strongman who also all had below par net scores. Each participant will receive $40.
Rounding out the top 3 was Coyotes Run. Like I mentioned earlier, Captain Fernie led the team with a 4 under par 33. Chris Wojcicki, Glen Swire, Tom Durcan, David Cooper and Jim Hannan also help their team walk away with $21 in sweeps.
We would also like to add that August 11th will be steak night following your Wednesday Men’s League golf. Pick out own steak and watch it being cooked right in front of you!! More details to follow over the next couple weeks.
Thanks to everyone who made it out this week.
Until next week…….
Weekly Update

With the warm hot weather not showing any signs of slowing down we still had an above average turnout of 119 players. Even with 2 losses, Up N Down are proving the key to success is the participation. They have 11 more participation points then second place, Fazers Lazers. Their participation every week has allowed them to keep their very slim lead of 1 point. Here are the standings after yesterday.
So let’s get started shall we….
Even with the absence of Captain Beers, The Beers Boys managed to clean up this week shooting a 10 under par 212. The team was led by Paolo Zulian and Paul Hammond firing very nice scores 35 and 36 respectively in the gross department. Helping in the net were Dave Garton, Eric Anderson, Brad Lambert, and Alexander Polimac. This win help propel The Beers Boys to sole posestion of 4th place for the season. In the effort, each player received $45 in sweeps.
Andy Jeffery, just back from summer school, was a welcome addition to the struggling Walkabouts. His and Chris Regan’s 38 helped get the Walkabouts to the prize table once again. An impressive 32 net by Barry O’Brien led the net category for his team, while David Griffiths, Steve Boniface and Randy Reeve each had nice front 9 scores that counted towards the total. Everyone who played this day will receive $33 in sweeps.
Rounding out the top 3 was none other than Fazers Lazers who continued their winning pace. Sean Kennedy blazed through the front 9 in just 33 strokes. This belittled Johnny Ross’s 37 causing him to throw his bag into the bay in disgust. The more passive Peter Donnell, Clement Messere, Mike Penner and Cameron Facer helped by firing good net scores. Even Mr. Fazer has been seen out on the practice range quite frequently, mostly from the hours of 9-5, his dedication to his sweeps account is second to none. Even though they came in 3rd place for the week they still received $27 in sweeps.
Back from an impressive showing at the Port Carling Member Guest, Trevor continued his solid play by firing a 2 over 39. Things were going well for our Head Professional until he hit the 9th hole and made a double. I won’t go into details but if you must know you are going to have to speak to him…..
Thanks to everyone who made it out this week……
Hot, Hot, Hot
Jul 7, 2010 | Posted by Derek
As we welcome the hottest weather this year we saw 104 hot and sweaty people out to try and cash in some coin for their team. Even the quick afternoon shower was not enough to shake anyone off the golf course. This week saw the top 3 teams win their match making no change in the standings after last week. Up N Down still has a narrow 2 point edge over second place Fazers Lazers.
Shall we see who banked this week…..
Fazers Lazers again took first place overall with a score of seven under 215. Their team was led by Captain Facer with an impressive 51, net 44, well, led the bottom I mean. Nice to see your captain played his heart out for the team! The team was really spearheaded by Johnny Ross who again turned in another sub-par score of 35 followed closely by Sean Kennedy with a solid 38. The net players were led by a late hero, Dan Winstanley submitted a late evening score of 31 net to jump the team into first place for the week. Other players who helped the net were Paul McLean, David DeSaverio and Chris Coons. Their effort banked each participant $53.
Second Place went to the Wolf Hounds again led by Captain Amos who carded a net 40 did absolutely nothing to help his team, well I shouldn’t say that, he did a participation point. The team came out and fired a three under 219. Joe Kennedy got back on track this week and shot even par. Mike Jenkins also came back to his usual form and submitted a 1 over par 38. Russ Taylor, Stephen Elliott, David Frid and Ken Starkey had good scores. They will each receive $32 in sweeps.
There was a 2 way tie for third place. Both Fingrz and Toes and Chistastics both came in with a score of two under par 220. They will each receive $8 and $12 respectively. Brad Chisholm asked me today why I don’t mention how good he is playing, and I simply told him, “no one like to hear when you are playing good, people like to hear when you break things”. So there Brad, you got your mention, no go break things so I can comment some more!
Here are the weekly team results and current standings after week 8.
