Sep 9, 2010 | Posted by Derek15/16Week 2 of the playoffs saw some weird weather pass through the area. Wind and rain made for some interesting conditions on the course but that was not enough to keep 105 players from helping their team. Tom Brain, Steve Pickfield and Mike Fernie did not seem to have any problems with the windy conditions, each posting an even par 37 to claim low gross scores for the day.
In the upper pool, Up N Down continued its dominance by again finishing first with a 2 under par score of 220. This was led by low gross scores of 37 and 39 which were carded by Tom Brain and Dr. 2-A-Day Carruthers. Peter Weber, Bruce Strongman and Colin Smith each contributed with sub-par net scores and Glen McLeod rounded out the Net. This win increased their lead over second place Fingrz and Toes to 33 points. The results from yesterday in Pool A were as follows:

In Pool B, Coyotes Run continued their strong play by posting a 5 over 227 in the tough conditions. This score was good enough for first place and 30 much needed points. Mike Fernie led the scoring with his even par card and Steve Kirchner added with a 41 in the gross department. Captain Fernie’s horse(Peter Murdza) did not break this week and carded the low net score for his team. Dr. Tom Durcan and the horse each posted a 1 under par score of 36. John Rosart and Glen Swire also carded respectable scores to round out the net. This win extended their lead to 22 points over second place Burlington’s Best.

| 0 Comments Sep 3, 2010 | Posted by Derek1st of 3Seems like weeks since I have reported on the doings of men’s night, well I guess because it has been. So the first week of the playoffs saw a very solid participation rate. 130 players hit the course on a hot and humid day. Up N’ Down was the overall leader in Pool A coming into the playoffs as they continued their domination by posting a 9 under par 213. The team was led by Diamond Ray Colasimone when he carded a 2 under par 35 to lead the team. Following close behind was Tom Brain who shot a 1 under par 36. Paul Lonergan, Lorne Childs, Mike Macey and Colin Smith all helped the team in the net. This score netted the team 20 points and they continue to lead in the upper pool.
As for Pool B, team Chistastics, were led by a pair of 36’s posted by Brad Rollo and Brad Chisholm. Their 20 points helped to pull them within 4 points of 3rd place and scoring some cash at the end of the season. Other notable scores from Chistastics were Len Olynyk, Ace Milne, Bill Dunlop and Mike Carr. As you can see, Pool B is a close race along with Pool A. The standings after week one are as follows:
Pool A Standings
Pool B Standings
Remember that next week the point values will once again be raised and are as follows:
1st 30 points 2nd 24 points 3rd 18 points 4th 12 points 5th 6 points 6th 3 points
As always there will be the participation point for everyone who has played. Please note that the final week will be followed by the closing dinner. Last year was a great time had by all. The sign up will begin online starting tomorrow morning at 7:00am. Please sign up on the calendar portion of the club website as per normal tournament registration. There will also be a section where you can add your requested tee time.
Thank you all for making it out this week and we look forward to your continued support.
Until next week

| 0 Comments Aug 12, 2010 | Posted by DerekEnd of the reg........Well that does it for the regular season….Up N Down managed to come away on top despite a loss in the last week and a late season charge by Fingrz and Toes. Captain Nameth and his boys narrowly escaped with the victory by a mere 2 points. The team will split $1000 in prize money with the individual amounts to be announced at a later date. First loser(second place) went to Fingrz and Toes but for their year long effort they will split $600. Rounding out the top 3 teams of 2010 went to The Beers Boys who will share $400 amongst themselves. We are now heading into the Playoffs! This is the time when your team can make some coin no matter what you finished in the regular season. Yes, that means you Doug and your slugs…. Now it is time for your team to pull up their panties and get the job done. The format to the Playoffs is simple. There is no longer any Team vs. Team competition. The teams will be divided into 2 pools, “A” and “B”. Teams that finished 1st through 6th will be placed in pool A and teams 7th through 12th will be placed into pool B. Each week the teams will be playing medal play in their respective pool and will earn points based on how they finish each week. For example in the first week the point values will be as follows: 1st 20 points 2nd 16 points 3rd 12 points 4th 10 points 5th 8 points 6th 4 points So as you can see, your team can make up ground rather quickly. The points will increase each week of the playoffs and so will participation points so make sure to get out and help your team. As for the weekly results we saw 121 players come out on a gorgeous warm day. Chistastics came out gunning even without their calm and cool captain to anchor the team. I think he ran out of golf clubs that were still in one piece. Steve Pickfield and fired a nice 34 on the front 9 and then promptly left the premises so he didn’t have to post his score. Good thing Daryl had a fine attention to detail and posted Mr. Pickfield’s 9-hole score to save him some time. Following close behind was Brad Rollo who came in with a 1 under par 36 and Len Olynyk, Domenic Tesone, Ace Milne and Bill Dunlop all helped in the Net. They will each receive $95 in sweeps. Even though Fazers Lazers did not share in the yearly winnings, they did manage to pull out a tie for second place alone with Fingrz and Toes. Johnny Ross again led the team and again broke another club. He had a slight falling out with his lob wedge. He opted not to fix it at the time because his 56 degree SW was almost back from the repair department and he would just use that. Well until he breaks that one again. Good thing he keeps winning. Lots of sweeps credit = No anger management. Oh yeah, he shot 35. Following close behind Ross the much calmer Sean Kennedy shot a 37. Al McCurdy, Steve Abraham, Paul McLean and Geoff Oliver each posted net “keepers” They will each receive $28, or 2/3 of a Johnny Ross re-shaft. Again Captain Facer rode his teams’ tail and posted a pathetic net 41. At least we know someone is looking after Tall Tree as he is never here working on his game. The other team to tie for second was Fingrz and Toes. Brian Cross, #1 draft pick, kept his calm cool pace and posted another 36 on the outward 9. Fraser McClellan strolled his way around the front in even par fashion 37. Dr. Hirsh, Bryan Bennett, Jim Schofield and DSG(straight off the train) helped with the net requirements. They will each receive $22. Thanks to everyone who made it out this year. It has been a fun and exciting year and it only promises to get better in the upcoming weeks. Until next week……
