Welcome to the Men's Night 2010 Season
News at 5Jun 17, 2010 | Posted by DerekThis weeks weather was nearly a carbon copy of last week. A rain filled morning followed by a partly sunny afternoon. Week 5 saw 124 players on the golf course each hoping for glory and praying they didn’t pull a Facer and shoot a net 42. The standings after week 5 saw a slight change in power. Fingrz and Toes passed Up N Down for the overall season lead. The top is pretty crowded as the difference in points between 1st and 3rd is only 13 points. That means every team can still make a move for the top, yes, even Doug and His Slugs have a chance. Here are the standings as of week 5.
This week we saw a tie for 1st and a tie for 3rd. The Beers Boys and Fazers Lazers each came in with a 2 under par 220. Paul Hammond threw a very nice 35 at the boys this week to count for low gross for The Beers Boys while Dave van Wely followed close behind with a 39 on the front nine. Alexander Polimac, Al Taylor, Brett Moore and Doug Leyland each leant a helping hand in the net department. As for Fazers Lazers, Johnny Ross continued his strong play by posting a 37. He now has $167 in sweeps credit for the year, or approximately 4 re-shaft credits. Mike Penner was the other low gross player. At least on lefty played well today. Yes, I am looking at you DSG and Trevor….. I am not even going to list the players who beat the pro. As DSG passed through the shop he commented that he will be in contact with the “Islington Pro” regarding future lessons. Al McCurdy led his team in the net department by posting a 29. Is that legal? David DeSaverio, Chris Coons, and Dan Winstanley all were above the “Useless Bastard” line. These two teams banked $41 and &57 respectively. As for 3rd place, Coyotes Run and Up N Down tied with a 3 over par 225. Their sweeps accounts benefited by $11 and $10 respectively.
Mike Fernie again rounded up the low gross honors with a 34.
Thanks to everyone who made it out. Below is a copy of the format towards scoring. This was taken from last years format and the only difference is this year we are counting 2 gross scores this year compared to 1 last year:
"The idea behind the program is simple... the more you play, the better it is for you and your team. Teams will do battle in a season-long round robin with the winners of each weekly match earning 10 points, 5 points per team if there is a tie and 0 for teams that lose. The most important aspect of the scoring is participation - teams receive 1 point for each participant regardless of their performance as long as they reach the minimum number of players required to post a team score (four). Team scores will be determined by the total of the 2 lowest gross score and the 4 lowest net scores. Those that don't count toward the team total can almost assuredly count on being singled out, ridiculed and suitably labeled a Useless Bastard on both the TV and in this very space. They will, however, earn a valuable participation point and, of course, they can always step it up and count the following week." "One of the high-lights of the program is the actual real-time scoring. As the Pro Shop staff enter scores throughout the day the standings, individual results and Team vs. Team information is updated in real-time on the Internet. Guys that aren't able to play or those poor souls stranded at the office until later in the day can log onto the site (www.golfscoring.net/burlington) to see how their team is doing - We encourage everyone to save this website address into your "favourites" file. Another bonus is the program actually maintains a separate Men's Night handicap so there is no need to worry about each team being balanced with an equal number of liars, lowlifes, sandbaggers and cheats."
