Welcome to the Men's Night 2012 Season
May 24, 2012 | Posted by DerekWeekly NewsAbsolutely perfect conditions were experienced yesterday for week 2 of Men’s League. With the course in stunning shape it was a perfect opportunity for scoring. Right Dr Moore, was it 48 or 49 yesterday??? How's that new driver eh, did Trevor have the launch monitor set to “Sell Driver Mode +20 yds” when he sold you it because your nomally not a 49 kind of guy? I guess time will only tell…
If you thought that last week I was a little harsh on the “Golf Gods” you would be mistaken. I want none other than to help Captain Wilson put together a winning team seeing how he has donated to the prize pool for the last 3 seasons. Let’s see his donations shall we, 3 seasons, 15 weeks per season, $11 per week, we should issue the poor man a tax slip at least. All kidding aside, I truly believe this is their year and I am now a believer. Lets see how all the boys are doing after week 2.
Standings for Men's Night 2012
As for the weekly cash, League Convener Facer’s team Weapons of Grass Destruction prevailed over all. Their score of 14 under par, 208, was good enough to win by 2 over second place. Sean Kennedy headed the gross division by posting a 2 under par 35 while Nick Vamvakas, Murray Osbaldeston, Cameron Facer, John Simioni and Jim Slomka all contributed with solid net scores. For their effort, each will receive $45 in sweeps.
Second place this week was Fingrz Crossed. Brian Cross did what Brian Cross usually does, post a boring old 37, nothing ever flashy, just solid steady play. Behind him were Captain Schofield, Brother Tom, David Sansome, Ron Vanlith and 2 A Day Carruthers. Remember the more participation the better chance your team will have of winning. Second place banked $34.
Speaking of Flashy, Brad Chisholm’s VENOM came in third. Resident club thrower/men’s league captain was reliably calm and his score reflected such. 32 gross was good enough for low gross overall and 8 better than our pro. His effort, along with that of Andrew Leyland, Ray Colasimone, Barry Dawkins, Venti Louisy and Paul Kuno earned the team $30 in sweeps.
This week we once again broke our attendance record with 157 player and we look forward to many more weeks of Men’s League.
Until next week….

As I sit down to write my first "official" blog of the 2012 season I find it hard to believe that we are venturing into our 4th season with the Men’s League. We've come a long way in a short time and this year we once again are breaking attendance records. With 195 players signed up and ready to give it all, this promises to be an exciting year. I must say that I am looking forward to this season. Week 1 started on a cool windy day with temps feeling like they were in the single digits but that didn’t stop 155 players from coming out to brave the cold. 155, another new record for daily attendance. As I was plugging away scores at the end of the night something strange and peculiar jumped out at me, Doug Wilson’s team was on the upper half of the leader board! Could this be true, could the Cleveland Browns of the Men’s League actually be making a move to become a contender?? Time will only tell but Captain Wilson did his part by throwing a smooth net 34. I guess Mr. Wilson has been working on his game when he is not involved in mixed events. I should take some lessons from his hand book on how to be the ultimate husband. Will keep you up-to-date on this….. First place overall was no surprise as Mr. Fernie’s Coyotes Run were first overall for the week. In true form, the captain led his troops into battle by firing a 3 under par 34 on the outward nine. This was followed with a stellar performance by new member Clint Husband. His net 31 was good for the overall low net. We will be watching you Mr. Husband…. Other notable scores from the top place Coyotes were Dave MacPhee, Steve Boniface, David DeSaverio and Paul Hammond. On the other side of the coin, Captain Fernie’s Lead horse, Peter Murdza ran a tough race as his 56 fell a little short. I am sure he will be back in form soon or it’s off to the dog food factory I’m sure. Though he didn’t help the team score he, along with everyone else who played walked away with $66 in sweeps. Second place went to the Golf Gods who I spoke about above. Johnny Ross was the gross counter with a 38 while Tony Colangelo, Jeff Cooling, Doug Wilson, John Robson and Mo Lawson all contributed net scores for the team. Johnny is pleased once again that Men’s League season is here once again as he can now apply his winning towards re-shafting his clubs. I think we are 3 so far this year…….and counting. Each God will receive $29 in sweeps. Rounding out the top 3 was of no surprise as well. Mr. Nameth has always fielded a good team and this year is starting to look like that once again. His top pick, Fraser McClellan, sporting the Miguel Jimenez pony-tail was playing just like him. His one under par 36 was the top gross on the team and the 3rdoverall top gross score. Mike Macey, Kevin Blakey, David Cooper, Drew Nameth and Michael Collins all helped with the net portion. As you scroll down the scores you will notice that Mr. Amos was towards the bottom with a net 42. I guess being a 4 handicap wasn’t acceptable so he is working on getting his handicap back to a “money making level” of 6 or higher. Once the adjustment is made in sure he will be back with those net 31’s……… How do you people sleep at night?!?! Anyway, each guy who played gets $22. In closing I would like thank everyone who helped make this again the most successful year. Stay tuned as there will be plenty more to come.
Until next week…….

The draft was successfully completed last night and it only took Trevor dropping the gavel 6 times to get order to accomplish this task. Substitute picker for Captain Bill Jones was Al Dolan who came well prepared with a copy of the 2011 player list which led to much camaraderiey. I am surprised he waited until the 3rd round to draft himself to Captain Jones' team. Guess this is a great out if Team Jones falls short.......... Another captain, Mr. Doug Wilson, was fully prepared by bringing a draft consultant to the table. I am sure Mr. Brain might have had other things in mind when Captain Wilson asked him to attend to "draft night" but we won't go there. So the teams are all set and the draft order was set by the captain's handicap, so the players drafted is as follows. I won't say who the last person drafted was but you can be assured it wasn't any of our "honest" players!
If you thought I was going to put the order of the draft here you are gladly mistaken as we like to feel everyone is a team regardless of when they were drafted. The only person who was guaranteed a spot with a team was Mr. Dolan. Changes for 2012.
With the new season bring a few new changes to the league and they are as follows: * We will now be counting 1 gross score and 5 net scores. * We will have a Hole-In-One day this June or July if the pot is not won by that date * We now have the ability to post upcoming events or information via the scoring website plus many more little details that will make the round more enjoyable.
Good luck to all and I wish everyone another successful season as we once again broke the attendance record.
Until next week.........
Derek
