Welcome to the Men's Night 2006 Season
Aug 25, 2006 | Posted by Craig OwenMens NightThe legend of team 2 was finished with an exclamtion mark. Blitzing the course with a record breaking 194 is almost as good as getting a hole in one, except no one is really impressed and recognition is minimal. Never the less, great job team 2, thats what we call adding insult to injury. With a final night total of 16 under the final dinner will most likely be a beach party, due to the excess amount of sand that will be present. All in all, I would have to say that the first year of the new mens night was a success, we saw grown men weep and jump for joy after just narrowly missing the most useless bastards board. We definately got a clear indication of what a true handicap would be for players (please make a note those of you who play weekly money games). In the new era of mens night it is imperative to spread the word and ensure that the success of year one will carry on and continue in to the upcoming years. Congratulations to team 2 and all the participants who made mens night a success.

It is suspected that this nasty rumour derived from team two's player's Ted Thomas and Brent Dunsieth. Obviously, it is not true. The MEN'S LEAGUE WILL CONTINUE FOR TWO MORE WEEKS!! Team two is nervous because of the stellar play of team five in the last couple of weeks. Net scores of 31 for Barry Koinoff and a gross score of 36 from Rick Kelly, helped team five move into second place hot on the tail of team two. I caught Rene Richard in the club house after his round, sulking in the back corner, since he was fairly confident that he would be this weeks most useless bastard. Posting a solid net 44, which should have been more than enough to secure a victory of sorts. However, out on the course Brent Dunseith had the number one spot on his mind. It was just a few weeks prior that Brent was in Renes position thinking that he was going to be number one's useless bastard until he was relegated to second postion. This week was going to be different for Brent he missed putt after putt and slashed at shot after shot on his way to victory, capturing the most useless bastard title with a net score of 45. Great job Brent. Its obvious that Ted Sinclair and JIm Symons are running out of gas they have been carrying the few people who show up for team 8 each week to victory, but these guys are only human they would have had to shoot nothing this week to give their team a chance to win. Team captains should let their player's know that even though their mid forty and fifty scores are painful to watch on the big screen. It is of the utmost importance to support your team with their participation. With two weeks to go a number of teams still have an opportunity to win. Captains should get ahold of their players and try to make a run in the last couple of weeks.

Would someone please tell John Wieringa''s bunch of dopes from Team # 8 that they have to get out and play? These guys should be running away with this thing but they can''t seem to find their way to the club. Their record of 7 wins agains just 1 loss is easily the best in the league but their deplorable participation has them sitting in third place. Come on boys, get out and support your team... and yourselves!
Speaking of the heat... I guess it was getting to Mr. John Wieringa, the aforementioned captain. In an attempt to rally his troops Johnny could be heard all over the course giving his boys absolute hell prior to his going out for the night. Surprisingly, John''s gross score of 41 resulting in his being listed as a Most Useless Bastard did little to dampen his team''s winning ways. Now that is what I call leadership. This week''s story is about our friends that comprise Team # 3. These boys, led by Captain, Mr. Ben Fuschino, have been hanging in there all year despite having but one victory to date. Accepting one humiliating defeat after another is difficult and although Ben''s method of coping is contrary to the popular belief among the Psychiatric community, he has always believed that the most successful method of dealing with any type of golf disappointment is good old-fashioned denial. Benny doesn''t want to hear any of this positive talk schmutz - it just didn''t happen. Trying to maintain a positive attitude throughout a round of competitive or even casual golf is in his opinion, impossible. It can''t be done. Ben has yet to tee it up with anyone that didn''t sooner or later utilize the tried and true method of berating his or herself as a motivator. It is a simple fact that mentally beating up on yourself is an important step towards playing better golf! Trust him on this. Every player has practiced the art of self-hatred when things really begin to go badly. In the early stages of a round we often gently coax the ball in an effort to persuade the damn thing to behave. Should our ball choose to ignore us, a little groveling might turn the trick. The next step is indubitably anger, usually directed at our equipment or the unfortunate happenstance that will once again prohibit us from finally carding the low score we know we are capable of. As the round continues to unravel - we turn our rage inward. No longer content with wishing the worst for our opponents, we seek to punish ourselves as well. Rather than asking for a weakly struck shot to clear the greenside bunker, we scream wildly at our ball to "get in that trap"! In an attempt to really teach ourselves a lesson we may even request for the ball to bury under the lip, hopefully making our next shot virtually impossible - just as we deserve! Perhaps then we will finally learn to play this infuriating game. Makes perfect sense to me.
See you next week,
Men''s Night Committee
