Welcome to the Men's Night 2008 Season
Sep 13, 2008 | Posted by Darren BrimsonIn response to where the money is allocated.Attention all male members of the 2008 men's night league. In a meeting during the spring prior to the start of our men's league. The committee made a decision to change the allocation of the money received through entries and sponsorships. Initially, $1 was issued to the hole in one account from each participant of every night of men's league play. Now, 0.50 cents are issued to the hole in one account. The reasoning behind this move was to allow more money issued per nightly wins. Previous nightly payouts were only for 1st place per evening. With this change we are able to pay 1st and 2nd place each evening. I hope this response will elevates any questions or concerns of the allocation of men's night money. To all men's night members, please feel free to contact me via email at proshop@craigowan.com if you have questions regarding league play, sponsorship or prize breakdowns. Thanks to all participant and sponsors of the 2008 men's league. Darren Brimson

At one point, I believe it was decided by the men’s night committee to cap the ninth hole at $1237 and start another pot on hole number 3.
On July 31st 2008, the cash value on both holes #3 & #9 was $309.50 and 137 members participated that day. On August 7th, the cash value on both holes was $342.50, which equates to an increase of $33 per hole which would be ½ of the $1 per player for the number of participants the previous week which was originally proposed for the hole-in-one competition. I would appreciate it if someone from the men’s night committee would please explain to me and the other men’s night members (with a response online) what has happened to the original proposal for $1 per player per night and where the extra money is now going and why. Jamieson Hilts Cup Champions, congrats to Team 4! You boys are the deserving winners of the Jamieson Hilts Cup for 2008. I could go on about how well you played this year but it pains me so. I will suggest that your team of chops and hackers have a celebration drink or two out of that new trophy at Swatfest, and mug for a few pictures with it to make all the other teams jealous! I’m not bitter.
This has been the best year yet for attendance with a weekly average of 142 players, thanks to dedicated and passionate leadership of the captains. Who am I kidding? Some of them down right sucked and will be given the axe shortly after the GM returns from holidays. The new playoff system worked well as participation remained quite strong and there was some interesting movement of teams up and down the standings. Many players were faced with a playoff pressure that they have never experienced before. Such as, do I let my wife and kids down and play 9 holes while on holidays or do I let my team down by missing the last week? Well I’m proud to report Craigowan men can handle the HEAT and have their priorities set right. It’s reassuring to know that your fellow men’s member is just as passionate about his golf as you are and he too has a pissed off wife at home. Welcome to the club, club to be named later.
Team # 7 almost completed the Cinderella story and won it all, but in the end, the glass foot joy didn’t fit because it was for the wrong foot. You think they could have figured that out, duh! Anyway, I’m glad to report, they had to settle for bronze. Team # 2 is a tale of two seasons, first the regular match play season where for some reason, their attendance was poor and they lingered near the bottom for most of first nine weeks. Then playoffs start and BOOM the boys find the first tee and finish second for playoff attendance and 4th overall. Scary to think what this Team # 2 could have done with good attendance though the regular season; they might have run away with the Cup. Good thing Team # 2 didn’t win, rumor has it that Captain Carter was planning on keeping the Cup and rotating it though the Carter family every Thanksgiving. Something about, he thought it would make a great gravy boat??? We dodged one there!
Which brings me back to Team # 9, wait a minute I didn’t start with Team # 9 anyway Team 9er couldn’t have been finer when it somehow managed to slip in the back door and steal second place by picking up 40 of their 46 playoff points in the final championship night. Captain Taylor and Tony Crane delivered clutch performances to help their team vault into the prize money. Talk about money players!
Well I hope everyone enjoyed the 2008 season, I know I sure did. I cried, I laughed and even managed to make the odd par this year. I discovered that alcohol really does help ones golf game and after, it can be the milk of amnesia when things didn’t go as planned, enough about me.
It’s a wrap see you all next year.
Committee Posted by: Team # 8 | Aug 21, 2008 05:05 PMAnother great year guys! Thanks for everything you guys do and congratulations to the winners. There is no reason things shouldn't be bigger and better in 2009.
Posted by: Thanks for the work! | Sep 4, 2008 02:11 PMThe playoffs were a good idea although I prefer the head to head matches during the regular season. Thanks to the committee for all of your hard work. The league is the best thing we have and I know the guys appreciate your efforts.
Aug 10, 2008 | Posted by The CommitteeWelcome Back Team ‘Carter’The story of young Bobby Hagen and the team of lucky Bastards Team 7 continues to roll on but the new big story is the hard charging Team Carter. I refer to Team 2, as Team ‘Carter’ because first year Captain Brian thought he had to draft all his family on the team…well, blood is thicker than alcohol. Well Brian’s family strategy is starting to pay off as his motley crew have sobered up and somehow staggered to fourth place in the standings with one week to go. Team Carter’s playoff success can be directly attributed to the fine play of last years one number pick Ronnie Nauts (see story below on this years) and the super smooth swinging Andrew Scholten. Mr. Nauts as been a picture of consistency all year for Team 2 while players named Dino, Gunner and Bartlam have bought their A games lately and have been counters two of the last three weeks, they say timing is everything, welcome back Team Carter. I feel I need or maybe because I really want to tell this story of Bobby Hagen, not many of you know it so I shall tell this sad tale, as warning to future players hoping to be a number one pick. Bobby, once a young hot golf stud full of promise and future glory, drafted number one overall by Team 1 captain Rock Thompson. Team 1 took a gamble and pinned all its hopes on this young golf prodigy. Rock, being the captain that he is, dedicated himself to Bobby’s development he groomed, trained and fed his star player chicken wings and beer every Wednesday night in his basement and he even went so far as to have him stay for the odd sleepover. But in the end like so many before him Bobby succumbed to the burden and pressure that comes with being number one pick or maybe it’s because his captain just loved him too much, who knows, with young Bobby in counseling now to kick his chicken wing addiction lets hope he can make a full recover for next year. Next time you see Bobby give him your support and a big hug... Lord knows he needs it! Question... how has Team # 4 managed to stay on top this long when their captain can’t break his waist size and contributes to his team’s total only about once a month? Captain John is a unique individual and, I think it’s safe to say that, when it comes to his performance as a Captain… no one has achieved so much with so little and, yes, I mean that exactly as you think I do. What defines John’s captaincy and perhaps the man himself is that he never allows his own dreadful performance to dampen his inexplicable yet unwavering self belief. I remember a time earlier this year when a group of dissenters mocked poor Mr. Wieringa for the fact that his team got off to a hot start despite his deplorable performance. As usual, John completely ignored the slurs and immediately launched into a long and drawn out discourse comparing himself to world-class coaches, military geniuses and late-night motivational gurus… "Scotty Bowman didn’t score goals, did he? You didn’t see General MacArthur out on patrol, did you? Have you ever seen Tony Robbins walk on the hot coals? Of course not, John yelled! Their purpose, like mine, is to teach, encourage and lead young men to achieve the greatness they never thought they could!" I was thinking listening to his rant, blah, blah, blah, this chop is just lucky and what makes it more maddening is that shortly thereafter; Mr. Wieringa told me he was thinking they could stay on top all year this year. Well, my friends, I'm almost certain that Johnny can't skate, his putter's gone AWOL and I'll bet he burns his feet. For now, Team # 4 has a hold - lucky bastards. Go Team # 4 go! P.S. Remember to sign up for Swatfest and can someone please pour a cold one on Team # 7... they are still on fire!
