Welcome to the Women's League 2007 Season
Aug 8, 2007 | Posted by proshopRain, Rain And More Rain...Needless to say with all the weather issues this past Tuesday we unfortunately were unable to complete the days competition. On a sunny note, team 2 was the only team able to post for yesterdays game. Marg Freure, Susan Gillen, Betty Zeldon, Nora Spence and Janet Kendrick some of Craigowan's toughest ladies being able to fight through the heavy rains. Way to go ladies!!! Shhhh, don't tell those ladies that all of their hard work in the rain does not count. Better luck next week!

What Did You Shoot?Team # 4 is still undefeated and if things continue the way they have been we're going to ask Jane Coad for a specimen! Jane posted a net of 28 a couple of weeks ago and just so we didn't think it was a fluke she put up a net 30 this week. Jane's Tuesday handicap has come down 4 strokes in 3 weeks - that's pretty good playing. As a matter of fact we might just test everyone of the ladies that comprise Team # 4. They were low for the week, tied for best participation (there's a message there!) and continue to lead the overall standings. I keep trying to find a weak spot but it can't be done. If it's not Jane playing well it's Joanne. If the two of them don't get it going you just know either of the two Nancy's or Grazina are going to take care of things. On the other end of the performance spectrum was my good friend Cathy Dickson which is, by all accounts, a bit of a surprise. As you know Cathy is usually pretty solid but she ran into a bit of trouble this week. I knew things hadn't gone well when I asked her what she shot and, rather than just giving me the number, she did what I always do when asked the "so, what did you shoot," question. Cathy gave the answer but only after she took a moment to explain the extraordinary circumstances involved. One of the absolutes in golf is the story a person feels compelled to recount preceding any announcement of their score. The actual score is immaterial - how you arrived at the number is the most important issue and no Craigowan Women's League member worth her salt would ever surrender her score without an opportunity to explain what it should or could have been. Though I was never able to ascertain the exact cause of her unusually high score I knew one thing for sure... it wasn't Cathy's fault! I'm with you all the way!

The poor women of Team # 6 can't seem to get off the Schneid and get a win. With net scores of 31, 32 and a couple of 34's you'd think they couldn't lose but, once again, they came up just short. You really have to respect these ladies for hanging in there and continuing to go hard each week. A couple of wins and you will be right back in the standings. There is still lots of golf yet to play. As seems to the case every week we had some extraordinary low net scores again this Tuesday... Jane Coad, Grazina Williams, Jean Farley and Deb Masters all posted net scores of 28 - that is remarkable playing. Way to go girls! I don't know if you noticed but a net of 31 had you in a tie for 7th place. I say let's bring on the Beat The Pro for Tuesday's. I would like to see Darren beat some of those net scores. Team # 4 remains unbeaten thanks to some very impressive play by Jane Coad and Grazina Williams. Both of these ladies shot net 28's this week leading their team to a 120 total and the low team score this Tuesday - though just by one shot. I have no idea how they are doing it but my advice is to watch these two closely... and do whatever it is they do. They're good!
See you next Tuesday,

| 0 Comments Jun 27, 2007 | Posted by The CommitteeThings Are Good!We saw some very good scores this week. Both Cathy Thompson and Janice Carter led the field with gross scores of 40 and I see that Charlotte Swanson found her groove again this week. Charlotte seems to have an "every other week" thing going on - she's either real good or, well, less than real good. Generally speaking, the quality of play this week was excellent. You needed a net score of 32 or lower just to get you into the top ten of low nets for the week. That's some good golf. Don't any of you people work?!? Team # 4, led by Captain Nancy Coomber, continues to be the story so far. They are leading in participation (there is a message here!) and in the standings. Now, I don't want to say that anyone is surprised by their performance but... I am surprised by their performance! Who had any idea these girls were so good?!?! At the other end of the spectrum are the gamers that comprise Team # 6. They have been getting some bad luck. They lost by just a couple of strokes this week and by only one stroke last week. Hang in there girls... things can only get better!
