Week 2: Men’s League Play Continues

Week 2:  Men’s League Play Continues

Was last week’s victory by Kevin Klowns a fluke, or the start of a trend?  Finishing close behind were All in the Family and the Hair Dos.  Can the Klowns, Family and Dos “dominate” the back nine as well as the front nine?  Time will tell.

In the team versus team matches, Vics Prix made sure Elin really did not like what she was Feelin, the Hair Dos did in the Back Dores, the Kevins Klowns clubbed the Reshafts, All in the Family whipped Padgetts Ponies by more than a nose, and Laff Inn took 54 Cents lunch money and then some.

Several captains put up respectable numbers last week, a few even besting our head professional in the weekly battle to Beat the Pro.  Who will take it deep this week?

Who will be this week’s most useless of the most useless bastards putting up the grossest of all net scores?  That said, every single point counts.

Will someone self-nominate or get ratted out as this week’s nominee for “Choke of the Day”, or will the committee have to go looking for that special someone?

Will anyone respond to a blog posting?

The most important question for week 2 is probably going to be “Will the thunderstorms pass us by, or will they punish those who diligently come out play after work each and every week?”

Something to think about, especially if the weather turns nasty … In spite of the fact that you have put in a hard day of work and/or golf, we have a sneaking suspicion that your spouse does not want to cook for you after you finish your round.  We have seen what some of you can do with golf implements, so we suspect that you may be equally “proficient” within cooking implements.  Why not enjoy ½ priced wings and the $11 Nickelbrook pitcher special each Wednesday instead of fending for yourself?

Let’s have another great turnout this week.  See you there!

The DVGCC Men’s League Committee

Mid-day Follow-up:  There has been some rumbling in The Valley today already!  So much for nice weather until after 4 pm.  Not sure if the thunder and lighting will hold off long enough for sufficient guys to post scores, but rain is falling and it does not seem to be getting any lighter around here.  50 scores and counting ... Scores all over the map this week too, so some folks are probably doing their best rain dances.

I guess the question we should be asking ourselves is "When will someone get $2500 richer by making a hole in one?"  Something else to think about ... Will notable money makers (and former Maga's Bagas) John Kirkwood and Jim Maga would find themselves shut out of the money two weeks in a row after their stellar past performances.

Not sure why Nickelbrook pitchers are on special while Labatt's sponsors our DVGCC Men’s League, but perhaps all beer could be put on special at $11/pitcher?  The committee supports responsible consumption of alcohol, cheap beer specials, tasty wings and values all of our 2010 sponsors.

Late-day Follow-up:  Kudos to all those who persevered through the drizzle, rain and pouring rain to post 9 hole scores for week 2!  Let's hope for better weather in the weeks to come.

Quote for the Week:  Speaking of golf and cooking implements, the Right Honourable Sir Winston Churchill once said that “Golf … It is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for that purpose.”

Lookout today the Padgetes Ponies are going to "Back Door" The Back Dores!, after getting "Nosed Out" by the "Family" without a Horse Head in their Beds. I wonder if the Reshafts get a discount from Kev out of sympathy? I also find it Ironical that we now have Labatt's as our Major sponsor and run a jug special on Nicklebrook Beer. A bit of a slap in the face to our Labatt Rep. don't you think? Have fun today all and Play well!......V
