Welcome to the Men's Night 2009 Season

The Final Countdown

Aug 20, 2009 | Posted by Golf Shop

It’s the final countdown!

EVERYONE NEEDS TO PLAY THIS WEEK AS ALL THE THIS IS THE FINAL WEEK FOR YEAREND POINTS!

It’s the final countdown!

The time has come where we are at the final week of the Elmira Golf Club Men’s Day. Where we can look back on the season that was and recall great memories such as Michael Kam’s net 22, Guy Farwell’s net 25, Mark Whittrick’s -2 par, and Scott McLeod’s gross 36. Now it is time where we separate the pretenders from the contenders.

This weeks winning teams include Labatts Blue 176, Budweiser 175, Keith’s Amber Red 174, Labatts 50 173, and Bud Light leading the overall score with 172.

This week’s great weather finally brought with it some great individual scores. A gross score of 35 was shot by Cam Allen, and Ed Dewing. As well as Tim Martin who eagled the 5th hole. Two of our club pro’s, Glenn Leman and Craig Hare, and Jeff Baker shot 36’s. Rounding out the rest of the list with 37 is Mark Whittrick, Andy Newman, Ian McRae, and Clark McAlpine.

On the net front, Tim Martin led the group with a net 30 which his team could not count because Tim’s great round was used as a low gross score. Close behind was Keith Kennedy, Ian McRae, Larry Shantz, and Bernie Carrara with 32. Gord Cousineau, Jason Andress, and Bill Clemens had 33. Lloyd Martin and Cliff Gingrich finished with a 34. Congrats to all the players who posted will this week!

Your opponent for the final week will be done by seeding and is determined by the overall standing’s as of yesterday’s results. The 1st overall team plays the 2nd overall team, the 3rd overall team plays the 4th overall team and so on.

This is a reminder to all players that on September 9th, there is a Men’s Day Team Scramble starting at 4:15pm. $50 entry fee includes a cart, steak dinner, golf shirt, and a beverage. The format is; a team combined 9 hole score. Each team will split into 2 sub-teams consisting of the team members who participate, with a minimum of 2 players and a maximum of 6. Both teams will play in the same group, and you can decide as a team, who will go into either sub team. Mind you loading up the one group might not be the best plan as both groups scores will count, and the more players you get to sign up the better. Hope to see you out for this and next week as well!

It's Getting Closer!

Men’s Day Results

            Well another week is in the books and we experienced nice weather not to jinx it but summer may actually be here. (Knock on Wood) This week we saw the teams of Keith’s Amber Red, Labatt’s Genuine Draft, Bud Light, Keith’s Premium White and Hoegaarden pick up the Ws for the week. The standings are squeezing tighter. There are 6 teams within 10 points of first place so this is the time where participation points are essential to put your team over the top to victory. Individual results;

  • Low net for the week was shared by two golfers John Uffleman and Mike Sanderson with scores of 31 Larry Shantz and Mark Shewman where close with 32.
  • Low gross Cam Allen was low with a score of 35 with 4 players one shot behind him.

We are planning a Special Men’s Day Team scramble Challenge for Wednesday September 9th. The event will be 9 holes (aeration on other 9) with a dinner and prizes to follow. More details to follow.

That is all for this week we look forward to seeing everyone next week the forecast is looking great.

O' Summer where art thou?

Jul 28, 2009 | Posted by Cam Allen

Starting off, I would like to apologize for a couple things. I have been busy with events at the club and have neglected my duties as “the writer” for our Wednesday side show sponsored by Labatt’s. I would welcome anyone who wants to post the blog for the week to let me know and I can give you the criteria that should be in every week’s literary masterpiece.

Okay enough with my desire to be everyone’s friend and on to the results. This past week saw Team Labatt’s Blue finally lose and allow for some other teams to gain some ground in the race for the cash. With only 4 weeks remaining (remember, no Men’s day this week, July 29th)  Team Labatt’s Blue holds a fragile  6 point lead on Keith’s Pale Ale, Keith’s Red and Keith’s White and a total of 5 teams are within 10 points of the lead! The race is heating up and the random draw has been made for the next 3 weeks. The last week will seed teams agaist each other with 1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th, etc.

I personally would like to thank Ray Bullock for stepping up this past week, posting an impressive even par 35 for Team Keith’s Red while I found myself on the useless bastards list!  Other successful course gladiators were Club Champ Mark Whittrick with an impressive 2 under 33 and fellow CPGA professional Craig “someone please cut my hair” Hare with an even 35 posted for the week.

A Guy said Farwell to the rest of the field this week posting a sizzling net 25. Great job Guy!

That’s all I have to say about that.

Play well and may the best team win!

Reminder – no Men’s Day July 29th!

IS -13 ANY GOOD FOR 9 HOLES??

Jun 29, 2009 | Posted by Cam Allen

Is 13 under for 9 holes any good??

This week was an adventure on and off of the golf course. We posted the results and then changed them about 3 times. I remind you that it is your responsibility to hand in your score to the golf shop personally on the day of the competition (Wednesday). Please check with the Web site or the golf shop to ensure your score was handed in. From this week forward any scores handed in after closing of the golf shop will be posted as DNF. This is necessary because the behind the scenes work is done first thing Thursday morning. Please have someone attest your score as well.

Alright then, on with the results. This week we had a first, a 22! That’s right 22 on the front 9. I know you all assume that one of your talented CPGA professionals went out and made 5 birdies and 4 eagles but it was Team Bud Light member Michael Kam who leisurely strolled around 9 in 40 strokes with an 18 hcp. During the press conference after the record breaking round, Dr. Kam praised the coverage of the U.S. Open. It was a “few tips” he received while watching the championship that helped him have a career round this past Wednesday that was highlighted by a near natural Eagle on hole number 4. Dr. Kam’s unbelievable score raise eyebrows and his team’s standing. Bud Light dusted the field with a team total of 161. In second place, hard luck team Amber Red collected their first winnings of the year. Team Premium White followed up their great performance last week with a money earning 3rd place this week.

NO MEN’S NIGHT THIS WEEK JULY 1ST.

Wow impressive, shouldn't there be a maximum low net? anyways keep up the good work, having a great time with this format!

Why is it we laugh off a remarkably high net score but eyebrows are raised by a remarkably low net? No one ever questions the handicapping system when we see some poor sod with a net of 50 ... I say congratulate the guy and tell him well done. All that matters the Net Scoring Average for the year. If you have someone with a really low Net Scoring Average at the end of the year then there might be something rotten at Elmira. If not, then it's just amateur golf. The only thing consistent is the inconsistency. W.G.
