Welcome to the Men's Night 2008 Season

Sep 11, 2008 | Posted by Rob Moore

Oh Captain, My Captain

Team Armageddon claimed a famous victory last night winning the playoff season for 2008. The Parfects were stunned by the rally that saw two late night scores knock them down to second place. It looked like the Parfects were home and dry at 7 p.m. when the Armageddon captain Norm Casarin sidled out of the lounge leaving his half drunk pint of Molson beer warming on the table. Two minutes later he was to be seen racing to the tenth tee with his last hope of victory, Stephen Gray in tow. There was doubt as to whether or not the light would hold long enough for the round to be completed. Fifty minutes later a score of 30 appeared for Armageddon on the (soon to be Doc Sage’s) LCD tv to dash the hopes of Doug Ridsdale and his Parfects crew. Stephen’s net 30 was preceded 5 minutes earlier by Steve Cunningham’s net 33 to give Team Armageddon their victory. They were low team for the week with 208, four ahead of the Parfects. Their playoff total of 101 points was comprised of 55 points won and 46 participation points; both totals were # 1. Not bad from a team that finished 9th in the regular season with a poor participation record. We will be asking Norm what piece of inspirational literature caused the magical turnaround. Each member of Armageddon will receive $40 in credit while The Parfects will receive $25.

Men’s Night Closing

Next week is the closing event for the year. Play any time of the day and hand in your $2 and your 9 hole stableford score. Later the blind draw will take place to determine the winners. There will also be a draw for the TV and the participation draw. These will follow a meal, which you need to sign up for if you intend to eat. Sign up is in the men’s locker room.

Coors Lite Bus Trip

The Coors Lite Bus is filling up fast with Dave Ross the final Bum to earn its way on. The remaining spots will be filled by team picks. Ideally we should get all the names sometime prior to the 24th, which is the date of the trip. For the full list of qualifiers check the sidebar.

Hole in One

There was no Hole in One winner so the cash pots will be waiting until next year to be claimed. Both stand at a little over $1500 each. Remember to win you will have to sign up again next year for the league.

Our weekly winners this week were as follows:

Low gross – Tim Goad (again) 34

Low net - Doug Crane & Stephen Gray 30 (Split prize)

M.U.B. – Rui Couto 45

Closest to the holes

#14 – Rod Jones

#16 – Derek McGrath

Each prize is $25 to shop credit.

To all the boys who do the work, thank you! This is easily the best thing we have going at the club. I look forward to it every week.

Participation, Participation.

Team Armageddon is proving how important it is to get the guys out to play. For the first two weeks of the playoffs they have amassed a total of 55points to lead all teams. They have had perfect attendance of 32/32 to secure this position. With one week to go they hold a slim one point lead over the Foreplayers who rebounded from last week’s dismal showing to lead the field with a score of 203. Every team still has a chance to win the playoffs with a victory next week. Below are the updated standings after week two with the points still available.

Well done gentlemen. You will each receive $25 credit on your shop account.

Congrats to Tim Goad, Chris Goad & John Hussey who all bested the pro’s score of 35 and may pick up their drink tickets from the Golfshop.

Latest “Bum on The Bus” for the 24th is Bill Hadley. (Apparently Doc wants to know if Molson sells wine because Bill is not a beer drinker)

The “Parfects” have nominated Mark Parrott, so we are waiting for the other 9 teams to let us know their selections. There is also only one more week to win your way on.

Closing Night.

Make sure you sign up in the locker room if you are coming to dinner on the 17th.

There is no charge for Men’s Night Members.

Due to construction on hole #1 we will be starting on #10 for the rest of the season.

The Hotshots Live Up To Their Name!!!!!!

The Hotshots keep going lower as they set the bar at 200 for the first week of playoffs in the Ed Ex Cup race.  They received 20 points for their efforts and had 14 of 16 players contributing.  Their total of 34 is 7 better than the second place Rule-35 who garnered 15 + 12 for 27 points.  We had 121 total players for the first week of playoffs.  Gater's Gladiators managed a tie for fifth spot with only 8 players showing up.  The regular season champs...Team Foreplay had 14 of their squad out but seems to have lost the edge with only 16 points.  Remember the points increase for week two and three so you can improve you position.

This weeks addition to the Bums on the Bus trip is none other than John Robinson.....the bus is just getting crazy now....lol!!!

The Most Usless Bastard goes to Paul Paquette 46, but we should note he is making the gipper effort for his team while suffering a bad back.  Unlike some others..........oh captain my captain....where is my captain?

Closest to the pin winners:    George Schertzer #4

                                                     Barry Lumley #8

Low Net:          Mike Smith   28

Low Gross:     David Nevills    34

These individuals receive a $25 credit to their shop account....congrats!!

Well, I could go on bragging about my squad but that would be gratuitous and inflammatory and I hope I spelled all this correctly...........good luck to all next week.

Men's Night "ED-X Cup"

“Men’s Night” Fall Finish.

Team Foreplay took this week off and still managed to prevail as league champs. Congratulations to them on a stellar regular season where they finished with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses and amassed 222 points which was 17 more than the 2nd placed “Hotshots” total of 205. The “Foreplayers” will each receive $40 in credit, while the “Hotshots” each get $25.

This week’s winners were the “Hotshots” whose 201 total was the best score recorded by any team all year. Each participating Hotshot earned $25 for their efforts. Tied for 2nd were the Gladiators ($10) and Team Armageddon ($7) on 204.

Winning his way onto the bus trip was Rick Mathis.

Low Sandbagger was Doug Voll with a score of 30. Barry Berscht also shot 30 but only gets honourable mention, no prize.

Low Gross winner was Kyle Deighan with 34.

M.U.B. Steve Goodwin 45

Closest to the hole winners: #4 Barry Trerise, #8 Tim Schade

Rule 35 are anxiously waiting to get your measurements to get started on your prizes!!

Please forward these details to the Golfshop.

Due to the Pro Member event on Wednesday August 20th there will be no Men’s Night play. The playoffs will take place over three weeks starting on the 27th August and ending on the 10th of September. The playoff format will be as follows;

Each week rather than head-to-head matches, the playoffs will be contested in a medal play format with teams competing against every other team each week.  The team that finishes with the lowest team total for the week will earn the most points, the team with the second lowest team total for the week will earn the second most points and on down the line.  As always, participation points will be added to the performance points earned that week. The three weeks of playoffs will be worth the following points...

Week 1                        Week 2                  Week 3

1st – 20                        25                                 32

2nd – 15                       20                                 25

3rd – 12                        15                                 20

4th – 9                          12                                 15

5th – 6                          9                                  12

6th – 5                          6                                  9

7th – 4                          5                                  6

8th 3                          4                                  5

9th 2                          3                                  4

10th – 1                         2                                 3

The members of the winning playoff team will each receive $40, while the runners up will each receive $25. There will be no weekly payouts in the playoffs.

“Closing Night – September 17th.

Format will be 9 holes net- Blind Partners $2 entry. Draw in lounge for partners after golf.

TV and participation draw will be done on this night.

“TV draw” one ballot per men’s night participant. This will be a reverse draw with the winner being the last name out of the bag.

“Participation draw”. The more times you participated the better your chance will be of winning a prize.

You will need to sign up if you plan on attending the dinner that evening. There is no cost for men’s night members.

“Coors Lite Bus Trip”. Wednesday 24th September

After the 10th of September we will have 13 seats reserved on the bus to Osprey Valley by virtue of the “Closest to The Bubba” during the year. That leaves 11 seats to be filled.  Each of the 10 teams will nominate a team member to take a seat, while Ralph Neil has graciously decided to reserve the last seat for himself. If a qualifier cannot make it on the 24th they may find someone to replace them.

Build an Ark and they will come.....
