Welcome to the Men's Night 2008 Season
Look out for those WoodpeckersSep 8, 2008 | Posted by The men's night committeeThe drive for the WSI Cup is heating up to be a great conclusion to our Men's Night finale. This past week we had a record attendance of 206 players which is approximetly 80% of the league great job gentlemen! On behalf of the men's Night committee we would like to thank each and every one of you.
By nights end we saw our first official tie in the weekly standings the Woodpeckers and Herons both tied at 249 points giving them each 113 WSI playoff points which had a huge impact towards the overall standings. Since we are increasing the points by 25% each week we have seen lots of volatility in the standings, which in return, will make for good drama at the Men's Night closing on Friday September 19th. After week # 2 the overall standings look like this; Don Robertson's Herons are on top with 476 total points; in week # 1 they achieved second place points and this week a share of first place points. In second overall we have Graham Wright's Osprey with 432 total points in week #1 they were 1st place and for week #2 they finished 3rd. In third place overall we have Dave Colbeck's Merlins at 373 points (See Standings below).
Standings after week #2 of the playoffs
Matt Chaisson one of GreyHawk CPGA pro was able to hold off the charge leading the way with 20 gross stableford points shooting 34 on the front nine of Predator, he was also tied by Normand Lemieux, Marc Carrier, Dwayne Mercer and Paul Guerette. In the net stableford we saw Ron Scott put together his best performance of the year shooting 1 over par to give him 25 net stableford points. Other great net scores were posted by Larry Pyman and Gary Beatty with 24 points. The highlight of the night was the Ping putting contest in the banquet hall this was our first back to back playoff ever resulting in a pot of cash worth $475 that’s right C.O.D... Cash On Delivery! Who ever can sink the putt from the line takes home the money. All ten players missed resulting in a huge roar... what ever happen to golf etiquette...these guys don't care, as a matter of fact; I was screaming and cheering myself because next week we all have another shot at the pot which will be well north of $600 cash. REMINDERS: Please sign up in proshop for the Men's night Closing no later then September 12th. No official men's night on September 18th, however don't tell your wives and come on out and play!

The Race is On!!!
Aug 29, 2008 | Posted by The Men's Night Committee
We are officially one week into our first Men’s Night Playoffs and based on what I saw last night I’m prepared to say we are off to a pretty good start. Most of the people I spoke with seem to understand the playoff scoring but, for those who had a few too many, I’ll give it one more shot…
Teams were seeded based on where they finished at the completion of the 14-week round robin. Unlike the regular season the 4-week playoffs will be contested in a medal play format where each team is competing against the entire field. Where your team finishes in relation to the other 7 teams will determine how many playoff points your team earns that week and participation points will be added to your playoff points. The number of playoff points available will increase each week leading up to men''s night closing finals where the point total available may determine the winner in one night! This format will allow for far more volatility in the standings but I’m sure, as always, participation can make the difference so please, get out and support your team.
Team Osprey, led by, Ken Shula made the biggest move in week #1 of the WSI CUP by picking up 100 points for finishing 1st along with 24 participation points to jump into second overall in the race for the Title. Don Robertson and the Herons went out and pocketed 80 points plus their impressive 28 participation points this week, this made for some interesting drama around the big screen last night....the Herons poured back the wine and spirits anticipating a big jump in the standings, and by nights end the board flashed and the Herons were slotted first overall in the championship drive with 333 total points, followed closely by Graham Wright''s Osprey in 2nd with 324 points and the Merlins with a total of 311 points. And for those wondering what happened to the regular season champs..... the Macaws finnished a devastating 5th this week, to drop down to 4th overall. But don''t hit the panic button yet...the playoff points will increase by 25% next week, so there is still plenty of opportunity to move up in the standings! Remember, we are paying the top four teams there is still lots to play for.
For the individual performances on week #1 we saw Pete Mackinnon, John Bertram, Paul Guerrette and Dimos Agraniotis tie for low gross leaders at 20 points. In the low net department Ken Shulha and Ric Cammeron tied at 23 points.
OFFICIAL RESULTS WILL BE POSTED ON MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1ST
GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN WEEK #2
The Unwritten Rules of Golf – Part I
Unsolicited Instruction...
Why is it that a man with an index of 39 immediately turns into Bob Toski when he learns his playing partner is a 40? The rule here is very simple… if they don’t ask – you don’t say. I don’t care if Helen Keller could find the flaw - say nothing.
Here’s an example... you’re playing down # 4 when you glance over and realize your playing partner has a monkey on his back as he’s stepping into the shot. What do you do? Keep yer yap shut! If he wants to know if there’s a monkey on his back he’ll ask. The hairy ape could be the key to an elaborate drill he’s been working on so it’s best to pretend there is no monkey. When you get right down to it, Golf is a game of self discovery. If he or she wants your help, they will ask. So it shall be written. So it shall be done.
See you in a few weeks
The Race For The WSI CUP!!!
Aug 28, 2008 | Posted by The Men's Night Committee
First off, congratulations goes out to the Herons who won the 3rd quarter with 100 points. 2nd place saw the Teratornis with 94 points. Each member of these two teams are welcome to pick up their gift certificates in the Pro Shop. As for the overall results for the regular season... Jim Crawford and his Macaws are the regular season Champions of the 2008 GreyHawk Men''s Night with 475 points. They were followed closely by the 2nd place Merlins with 455 points and the 3rd place Herons with 450 points. The balance of the standings are listed below.
We now move into the playoffs. All teams will start the playoffs with 50% of the points they earned during the regular season; the Vultures, who finished at the bottom, still have a chance but, of course, they are going to have to play really well in the weeks to come. Thursday August 28th begins our first ever Men''s Night playoffs and the march towards the inaugural WSI CUP. For the next four weeks, rather than head-to-head matches, the playoffs will be contested in a medal play format with teams competing against the entire field. The team that finishes with the highest team total for the week will earn the most points, the team with the second highest team total for the week will earn the second most points and on down the line. As always, participation points will be added to the performance points earned that week. The following points will be up for grabs for the first week of the playoffs...
1st place Team... 100 points
2nd place Team... 80 points
3rd place Team... 60 points
4th place Team... 45 points
5th place Team... 30 points
6th place Team... 20 points
7th place Team... 10 points
8th place Team... 0 points
Just to make things real interesting, the points will increase by 25% each week leading up to the Men''s Night Championships on September 19th.

All-Star Break
Aug 12, 2008 | Posted by The men's night committee
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Herons for their great hospitality last week. Don Robertson and his team put on what was undoubtedly the best men's night in GreyHawk's history. Billy May Day started the night off by winning the hot tub chip off and $200 cash. He and his family will enjoy one-week free hot tub rental compliments of Don’s family company Robertson RENT-ALL see www.robertsonrentall.com for more details. To top of the evening over $300 in Robertson RENT-ALL gift certificates were given out. Great job guys!
The spirit for men's day is certainly alive and well despite the weather. Thursday was a great example as 168 players participated in what was a deadly storm. The horns blew off at around 5pm, but players continued the battle to complete their nines. Believe it or not some even went out at 8 pm to finish their games. It is amazing to see what these guys will do to get their hands on the WSI cup this year!!
Yesterday was week 13 which saw the Herons destroy the field with 248 team points putting them in 3rd overall. They also lead the league in participation points with 342 and bottles of wine purchased at the bar!! Guy our food and beverage manager would like to thank you gentleman!
We saw some great playing this week as 7 players were under par in the gross competition, including Ken Jewars who shot a 4 under 32. In the net department we saw Richard Lutterman, Scott MaCrimmon and Dan Pelletier at 23 points.
The overall standings is turning into a bit of a route as the Macaws improve to 12 and 1, don't count out the sleepers just yet a good final week may make things interesting.
Next week is week 14 the All Star break and Men's member guest practice round all Members participating in this event have until Monday night to confirm they will be playing the Shotgun practice round at 2:30pm this Thursday on Predator. The Talon will remain open for regular Men's night tee times if you can't get a time call the proshop Tuesday and you will be able to join us in the shotgun. This will be a fun night, so therefore, no scoring; however, we will have a lot’s of door prize on this night.
Reminder:
The WSI Cup begins August 28th- our new Men's night 4 week playoff format stay tuned for details...
