Week # 14 - Regular Season is Complete

Aug 27, 2009 | Posted by Graham Wright

Regular Season Wrap-up:

The changes made this year to the number of scores that count and to the participation points seem to have worked well.  At the end of the regular season the difference between first and fourth was only 15 points with only six points separating the top three teams.  Congratulations to the Merlins who finished the regular season in first place.

Congratulations to the Osprey for being the top team for third quarter and to Les Pic Bois who came second.  Each member of the Osprey team receives $20.00 and $10.00 for each member of Les Pic Bois.

Well done to Peter Nadeau who got the highest week 14 total points (25) and to DJ Robertson with the highest stableford points (20).

Thanks to all those who participated in week #14 and to all the Osprey who helped with August 20th hosting night:  Peter Akers, Guy Brunet, Ian Garland (MC and for getting some extra prizes from the Comedy Club - nice touch to have some golf trivia), Trevor Blakely, Trevor Poirier, Lem White, Luc Perron, and Frank Rocca.

Playoffs Commence for the 2009 WSI Cup:

Schedule:

Thursday August 27th

Thursday September 3rd

Thursday September 10th

Friday September 18th (12:30 shotgun start)

The easiest way to explain the playoffs is that it's basically the FedexCup with participation.  For the next four weeks, rather than head-to-head matches, the playoffs will be contested with teams competing against the entire field.  The team that finishes with the highest team total for the week will earn the most points, the team with the second highest team total for the week will earn the second most points and on down the line.  As always, participation points will be added to the performance points earned that week.

The following are the points for the first week of the playoffs.....

1st place Team - 100 points         5th place Team - 30 points

2nd place Team - 80 points         6th place Team - 20 points

3rd place Team - 60 points          7th place Team - 10 points

4th place Team - 45 points          8th place Team - 0 points

Just to make things interesting, the points will increase each week by 25% leading up to the Men's Night Championship on September 18th.  All teams will start the playoffs with 50% of the points earned during the regular season. Men's EnEndNight 2009

RULES

*  Same rules as the regular season - mark gross stableford point totals for first nine holes only and please clearly indicate your name and team name.

*  Drop off your scorecard in the WSI bins or the Pro Shop counter.

*  Putt everything out.  No gimmies

*  All course contests are still available for Men’s night participates only.

*  Amex contest are for the pre-paid participants only.

*  Please fill out door prize ticket prior to round for evening draw.

*  50/50 and Ping putting contest during evening presentations.

*  Buffet dinner starts at 6:00 pm and the evening presentation begins at 8:00 pm.

Regular Season Standings after Week # 14

Men’s Night Second Quarter Complete

Jul 22, 2009 | Posted by July 22, Posted by Graham Wright

Week #10 of Men’s Night marked the end of the second quarter and once again, the skies threatened rain (how unusual for Thursday Men’s Night this year!).

Congratulations to the Vultures who placed first for the second quarter ($20.00 for each team member) and to the Macaws who came second ($10.00 per team member).

Congratulations also to the week #10 high scorers: Rob Baldwin (Highest Points Total with 24) and to Thiha Gyi and Dany Lacombe (High Stableford with 20).

July 16 was a goodnight for the Ospreys as they finished first for the night, just ahead of the Herons. Apparently the Ospreys finally managed to get rid of the Captain’s curse!

Amex Championship:

July 16 was also the first night for the American Express Championship. If you have not signed up for chance to be on a team to represent GreyHawk at Wyndance on October 6th, Contact the Proshop. For only $20.00 you can try and make one of two teams (if we get 90 participants).

The qualifiers continues each week until week 18, therefore, you can sign up at any time.

Those who qualified on July 16 were:

Long Drive: P.J. Lahey, and Jamie Tutton

Closest to the Pin: Rob Keans, Jim Crawford, Guy Bourret, Dimos, Jamie Tutton, Jim Neubauer, and Mike Vezina

Men’s Intersectional Team:

Not such good news for the GreyHawk intersectional team who came up short and finished second to Mountain Creeek Golf Club. 2010 will ba chance to for redemption when GreyHawk hosts the event.

Thanks:

As regards the Ospreys’ entertainment, unfortunately the GreyHawk Censor Board blocked the presentation. Thanks to Guy for stepping forward with his short jokes!

Thanks also to all those who participated in week #10. Particularly to all the Ospreys who helped with the hosting events and to Creo Marketing, Bob Elliott, Luc Perron, Chris Rhodes, Dean Trudeau and Jerry Whiteeven who provided extra prizes.

Graham Wright - Ospreys Captain

Great weather finally!!

Jul 14, 2009 | Posted by Dave Colbeck

Men's Night Summary:

Week 9 of Men's Night here at Greyhawk signifies the start of the second half of the season. With the sunny and hot weather it seems like a new start all around given the first half had been full of rainy, miserable Thursdays. But not July 9th! A beautiful day, and the majority of the Men's Night participants were out battling like champions for their respective teams. Once the sun had set, the Ospreys had finished an impressive night with 306 points, the Merlins had managed to squeak out another win, and spirits were riding high with the end to a great day even if no-one won the putting contest!

Ryan also announced a Two-Man better ball tournament where the winning pair will be sent on an all expense paid trip to Ireland to play in the International Championship at the K Club. Ryan will have more details on that later.

American Express Championship:

Next week (week 10) will be the start of the American Express Championship. For $20 you have a chance to become part of the team that will be playing at Wyndance on October the 6th. If we have over 90 participants then Greyhawk will be able to send two teams this year, so please sign up if you haven't already.

Thanks again to all the Men's night participants. You make the job of hosting so easy! And thanks to all of the Merlins who were out helping by selling 50/50 tickets, putting contest tickets and handing out prizes!

Dave Colbeck

Merlins Captain
