End of the Second Quarter
Jul 21, 2010 | Posted by Men's Night Committee
Week #10 (July 15th)
A great week for scoring! For the first time this year, all team scores were "above par" (i.e. the totals for all teams were above 260 - 20 scores with an average of more than 18). 249 participated in Week #10 with the Merlins coming in first (397 points - what a team score!) and the Vultures a close second with 391.
Week #10 marks the end of the Second Quarter. The team with the most points for the Second Quarter is the Merlins who won all four matches and got maximum participation points. Second place for the second quarter went to the Macaws. Each member of the Merlins receives $20.00 and each member of the Macaws gets $10.00.
Dan Tapp (Hawks) got the highest stableford score of 22 with Mike Hopkins (Herons) second with 20. Bruce Hunter (Vultures), David Straby (Hawks) and John Feeny (Hawks) tied of the highest points with 25 - what great scores!
The winner of the putting contest was Gord Booth (Herons) and the Vultures teamed-up to win the 50/50.
Check the side bar to see if you won an on-course prize and pick-up your prize at the pro-shop.
Many thanks to Dominic Demers and Les Pic Bois for once again selecting a great buffet menu and for taking care of the hosting duties.
The Macaws will be the host team for July 22nd, the start of the Third Quarter.
GREYHAWK WINS AGAIN!
The GreyHawk Intersectional Team placed first in the Men's Intersectional competition which took place at GreyHawk on July 11th. The win moves GreyHawk into Group E for next near. Well done the Men's Intersectional team.
This win comes hot on the heals of GreyHawk team winning the 2010 Champions of Champions Tournament (July 5th - details in last week's blog).
ARE YOU IN THE MONEY?
Almost $3,000 in unclaimed winnings has yet to be claimed. Check at the pro-shop to see if you have gift certificates with your name on them!
Hit the Ball!
Once there was a golfer named Robb whose drive landed on an anthill. Rather than move the ball, he decided to hit it where it lay. He gave a mighty swing. Clouds of dirt and sand and ants exploded from the spot. Everything but the golf ball. It sat in the same spot.
So he lined up and tried another shot. Clouds of dirt and sand and ants went flying again. The golf ball didn't even wiggle.
Two ants survived. One dazed ant said to the other, "Whoa! What are we going to do?"
Said the other ant: "I don't know about you, but I'm going to get on the ball."

Heavy Rain Impacts Week #7
Jun 29, 2010 | Posted by Men's Night Committee
Week #7 (June 24th)
The heavy downpour which lasted until about 2:30 deterred quite a few players from playing their round. Those who checked the radar and came out in hope the skies would clear were rewarded with a very nice later afternoon and evening. Participation for Week #7 was only at 222.
With Canada Day on Thursday, Week #8 is a non-scoring week. Week #9 (July 8th) will be the next Men's Night where the scores will count. Hopefully, with great weather, participation will be much better.
The top team for Week #7 was the Macaws (366) with Les Pic Bois second (360).
The top stableford scorers were James Steele (Merlins) with 21 points and Dan Tapp (Hawks) second with 20 points. Stephane Ethier (Les Pic Bois) and Jack Cole (Merlins) with 24, tied for first for Highest Points for the week.
Rick Lowe (Merlins) followed-up his very long putt win of last week with a Hole-in-One on Predator #13 this week. Well done Rick!
Finally the putting contest was not won and $102 is carried over to July 8th. Don't miss your chance on July 8th! Angelo Fiore (Macaws) was the 50/50 winner.
Check the side bar to see if you won an on-course prize. If you have not claimed your prize, check at the pro-shop.
Thanks to the Vultures who agreed to change their hosting night and handle the activities for Week #7. Particular thanks go to Jim McAvoy, Mike Richling and Mike Henderson who worked hard to sell 50/50 and putting tickets to a very small crowd. Next week's hosts are the Eagles
Team Hats: Team hats were distributed last week. If you have not got your team hat yet, check at the pro-shop.
Stand proud you noble swingers of clubs and losers of balls!
A recent study found the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon.
Kind of makes you proud. Almost feels like a hybrid.
Upcoming Events:
Two Person Alternate Shot (July 10th):
A modified Alternate Shot competition format in which 2-person teams hit their tee shot, pick the best ball and alternate hitting the same ball. Handicap will be considered by adding each player’s handicap divided by 2.
