Welcome to the Men's Night 2010 Season
What the Keg!Jul 9, 2010 | Posted by The CommitteeHello Gentlemen - and I use that term loosely. We had a great turnout yesterday despite the scorching heat. There were also some record low scores for the day. Team 11 lit it up out there firing a blistering score of 196 (-20). That's 13 strokes lower than any previous score this year. Tough team to be on when a NET 33 gets you on the Useless Bastard list. Things were also pretty good on the gross side. We had two gross 34's fired by Gavin Aldridge and Reg Finlayson. We also had 7 guys shooting a score of level par 36 - a pair of those guys being from the B Flight. Nice shooting gents! I'm sure by now everyone has noticed the "Closest to the Keg" that has been out on the 3rd hole since the start of team play. Now I don't think everyone knows what this is about so I will take a minute here to explain it to everyone. Each week the keg will be out there and located in a different position. It might in the middle of the fairway, or the right rough, or even the fairway bunker - but wherever it is....LEAVE IT THERE! The winner of the Closest to the Keg each week will receive a Molson BUBBA, which you will be able to pick up in the pro shop following the conclusion of Men's Night. Also each winner will receive a seat on a bus that will be headed down to Galt Country Club in September. We will be having a 24 man home and home series with them. The bus ride down there is courtesy of MOLSON COORS and they will also be taking care of your meal down at Galt. You just have to cover the cost of your meal when Galt is here. Now since we only have 11 weeks of round robin play for Men's Night, there will be 11 qualifiers from the Closest to the Keg. The remaining 13 qualifies will be chosen based on Men's Night participation and scores. Hopefully that should clear things up with you guys and give you a better understanding of what the keg is all about. We hope to have another great turnout next week and see if any team can topple team 11 from the top of the standings. Good luck to all next week and I'll see out out on the course!

In the Books
May 21, 2010 | Posted by The Committee
Week number one is in the books. It was a great start to the season. We had a balmy Thursday afternoon that topped out at 27 degrees, 121 players battling it out on the course, a full balcony, and John Fendley didn't tell one of his jokes. How could it have been any better? Although I'm sure if you ask one Mr. Chris Cameron, our most useless bastard of the day, he would tell you that his day might have been a bit better if only he'd had a colonoscopy. I won't go in to a blow by blow of his round, but if you are looking for a good story (or laugh) I'm sure he will be happy to give you a recap.
This week's top team was team #5, posting a nice score of 209. Each guy from team 5 that played on Thursday night will find their credit books $30 heavier next time they are in the shop. Congratulations to Mr. Rick Cody and Mr. Terry Madill on firing the low round of the day. Both of them fired a smooth 35. Mr. Cody was also very close to emptying our hole-in-one pot when he stuck his tee shot on 9 to 1". I guess he is waiting until later in the season when the pot is a bit bigger.
We had some new names up on the TV Thursday night. It was nice to see some of those new guys taking home a prize after popping their men’s night cherry. The young whipper-snapper Luke Ovenden tied for 2nd low gross in the A Flight by shooting a nice round of even par 36. Mr. Mark Smith's round of 40 was good for 1st gross in C Flight while in the D Flight, a round of 43 posted by Mr. Sean Gaffey was good enough to take home the 1st gross prize. On the net side of things in the D Flight, Mr. Andrew Fitzpatrick took home 2nd prize after being nipped by one of the last rounds of the evening. Hopefully the false sense of security and ego boost we gave these guys will make them be some of our most regular participants. After all, participation points do count!
The matchups for next week are set. Teams 11 and 1 will square off against each other to try and improve their record to 2-0. Team 5 and 6 will also compete against each other for the same honours. We have a couple of this weeks winners going up against some losers when Team 3 squares off against Team 8, and Team 4 squaring off against Team 7. The other two matches for the day will be toilet bowl matches when some of this week’s losers match up to see who can improve their record to .500. Team 12 led by fearless captain, and now expert napkin folder, Mike Makovnyk will face off against Team 10 led by Rob May. Team 2 will play against Team 9. This one should come down to a battle of the captain's, as this week they both posted rounds of net 35. May the better captain win.
Good luck to all players next week!
See you on the balcony.

Welcome Back
May 14, 2010 | Posted by The Committee
Gentlemen, welcome back!
We are all ready to go for another season of Men's Night. We would like to thank the twelve people who volunteered to captain a team this year. They were all out last night (well most of them, some might have been on a cruise somewhere, right Mr. Cordick?) to draft their teams in hopes of becoming this years champions.
With the draft now complete we are ready to start team play for the season. The results from the draft, along with the week-by-week match-ups have been posted in the men's locker room for your viewing.
This year's calendar will see 16 weeks of Men's Night commencing on Thursday, May 20, 2010. With 12 teams this year it will take us 11 weeks to complete a full round robin. The remaining 5 weeks have been allocated for playoffs. However, should there be a date that gets rained out, the head-to-head match-ups for that week will be moved to the end of the round robin and one week of playoffs will be eliminated.
Throughout the round robin, teams will compete in head-to-head matches against one another. Each team will put their team score (comprised of the 2 best gross scores and 4 best net scores) up against the team score of their opponent. The team with the lower score wins and receives 6 points. Should there be a tie, both teams will receive 3 points. Teams can also earn points through participation. Every player that plays on any given week and submits a score to the pro shop will earn 1 point for their team.
At the end of the round robin, teams will be placed in to 2 pools, an A Pool and a B Pool. The top 6 point earning teams will compete in the A Pool while the 6 bottom feeders will compete in the B Pool. The playoffs will see teams compete within their pool in a medal play format. Points will be award based on how the team finishes within their pool. Points will be increased each week throughout the playoffs. Don't forget that participation points count too!
NEW for this year, we will be implementing a scoring deadline. All scores must be submitted to the pro shop by 8:00PM. NO EXCEPTIONS. This will allow the pro shop to get the results done in a timely manner and be able to have the results up on the balcony and ready for announcements at 8:15PM.
Also, NEW this year, in a effort to help speed up play. We will have a MAXIMUM SCORE ALLOWANCE. No player shall score more than a TRIPLE BOGEY on any hole.
Again this year we will be playing a hybrid set of Gold/Silver tees. We are also going to try out a night where we will have "Reverse Nines". This means that for that day, play will commence on the 10th tee and it will be the back 9 counting for the Men's Night scores. This will be done on a trial basis, and if it works out, the intention is to continue this once every four Men's Nights.
This year we will not be continuing with our weekly "Luck of the Irish" draw. We feel that it has run it's course and instead we will be replacing it with a "Hole-in-One Pot". $1.00 from each person's weekly entry fee will go in to this pot. Should any player make an ace on the 9 holes that will be counting for Men's Night that week they will receive a cheque for the entire amount of money currently in the pot. Should there be a night where 2 people make an ace, the pot will be split. The pot will then start again from zero and begin to build up. Any funds remaining in the pot at the end of the season will be given away in our yea end elimination draw.
Prizes will be paid out on a weekly basis and will directly entered in to your credit book. The top four teams in the field each week will receive a team prize. All players from that team submitting a score that week will receive a dollar value prize, determined by the team's finish. There will also be weekly individual prizes that will be paid out per flight. We have 4 flights. A Flight 0-4, B Flight 5-6, C Flight 7-9, D Flight 10+. Each flight will pay out 2 gross prizes and 2 net prizes.
Good luck to everyone this year. We hope you will all enjoy your time out on the course on Thursday Nights!
Cheers,
The Committee
