Meltdown Mania

Before I dive into the story behind the title, I have some background…

This year, in The Waller Cup, I had a partner who I affectionately labeled “Meltdown”. I ordered golf balls flashing the words,

“Meltdown’s Partner”. Tonight we had a major meltdown by none other than Dave Lee. Shooting a fast 42, he spent most of the evening handing out beer to the 49 golfers who scored better than he did. Many thought he might have  been pressured by this week’s marshalling of pace of play by Angus MacDermid. We hope that next Tuesday, Dave will be able to cap the flow of beer gushing out of control. Does anyone know if there is rain in the forecast?

After this performance tonight I offer the players in “Meltdown Lee’s” golf group next Tuesday, a golf ball (Titleist NXT) that simply declares, “Meltdown’s Partner”. Maybe we could start a secret society of Stratford Country Club golfers that can declare the unique distinction of golfing with a “Meltdowner”.

 One Pot Of Gold Shot

Golf balls galore, on this course, are finding their way into a par three hole while those on the putting green evade greatness. Congratulations go out to Kevin Smith, who potted his first lifetime hole-in-one on hole thirteen. Kevin, will gain the opportunity to compete at the end of the season for $800.00 hole-in-one pot or a prize from our pro. Who thought that this season’s hole-in-one insurance would be approaching $10.00?

Meanwhile, next week’s putting pot continues to grow. It will round out at a cool $1500.00. Last night’s putting spotlight dramatically shone on Dave Griffith’s effort with his short stick. There was discussion around the green. “Did Dave’s putt cover 50% or 60% of the necessary distance? As Dave left the practice green, he was overheard asking, “ What do you expect? I just finished having Meltdown Lee as my partner for two days in the D&D Tournament?”

 Draw Showdown:

This week’s round eleven picks were Al Lightfoot, Bob Jeppesen, Kris Morrison, Mike Stanley, Bevan Moir, Barrie Beech, Terry Boyce, Rob Peters, Charles Longston, Fred Nichols, Doug Barkman and Jeremy Pike. Congratulations Doug Barkman for winning this week’s $15.00 draw showdown prize with a net 33.

Next week’s round twelfth round participants will be Mark Marshall, Matt Francis, Peter Simpson, Orion Raes, Craig Pearce, Steve Olson, Scott Ingold, Mike Masse, Ed McPherson, Paul West, Brian MacLachlin and Jonathon Paola.

Jim Rogers, who potted this week’s low net score with a net 29. He “sandied” all of us. Meanwhile, Tyler Devereaux’ gross 33 score rocketed him to the front of the line of golfers awaiting beer from Dave. Congratulations to both of you.

JD Graham’s net score of 48 jumped him to the top of the useless bastard list and anointed him this week’s most useless bastard. He might try and match Paul Benjamin who won the most improved golfer this week.

The closest to hole today on hole ten was Geoff Grimes and hole thirteen was of course Kevin Smith. We also recognize those golfers who landed closest to the markers on the hole-eighteen drive. Today’s winners were George Brown, John Liotta and Dave Reeves. Next week we play off the black tees. Check in with the pro shop and make sure your pre-played games are off the black tees. This week each member of one group was assessed a two-stoke penalty for failing to keep up this week’s pace of play pace.
