Wire to Wire

For the first time in the history of Men's Day at Whistle Bear, we had a wire to wire regular season victor!  Gone With The Wind captained by Mark Fisher rode a good horse throughout the year and captured the 2011 Men's Day regular season Championship from week #1 to week #11.  The hours and hours spent drafting the team paid off as they move into the playoffs with momentum.  The calculations were done early in the day when Mark and WOGD co-captain Adam Ferraro found out that WOGD needed to finish 1st in the week and Gone With The Wind could not finish in the top 6.  Just so happens that that completely rattled Ferraro into a smooth 43.  Gone With The Wind finished the week in a tie for 3rd and WOGD was a tie for 4th.  What a year for the boys on GWTW, that is a pretty impressive feat to do! Good luck to all in the playoffs starting next week!

Rude Shot of the Week - For the 3rd week in a row , I happened to be playing with the gentleman that won the Rude shot of the week.  Yesterday it was Rob Gare - who stepped up on #5 tee a little bit upset with his playing partners because we weren't watching his shot on #4 out of the bunker and we could not find the ball.  Rob hit his tee shot into the bunker right on #5 and tried to play the perfect shot but kept it in the bunker.  Rob yelled over to captain Mark Fisher and told him to mark down a DNF for himself. Rob then stepped up and holed his bunker shot for 3! Easy Par.  Rob then made par on #7, 8 and 9.  Well Done Robbie!

Nothing Really Changing

Another Men's Day in the books and looking at the standings I don't see a alot of change at the top of the leaderboard.  Gone With The Wind had another good week at T-2 and put a little more space between them and Weapons of Grass Destruction who did not have a very good week on the golf course.  The Land Sharks have moved into 3rd place aftet their 4th place weekly finish.  With 1 week left in the regular season there will be a lot of movement to try and get into the top half of the standings for the playoff run.

Here are the Results for Week #10 -

Low Net – Jim Boyd / Karl Herod / Richard Cantin (31)

Low Gross - Ross Eisele / Dave Stephenson / Doug Schneider (36) - Honorable mention - Ferraro's 1st round under par in 2011 Men's Day - 34

1st - Extra Stiff Shafts (277)

T-2nd - Gone With The Wind (278)

T-2nd - Wasted Wednesdays (278)

Closest to the Pin #14 - Jim Boyd

Closest to the Pin #17 - Jerry Lavigne

Longest Drive #18 - Jimmy Latta

Taylor Made Shootout Qualifiers - Jim Boyd / Jerry Lavigne

Rude Shot of the Week - I was lucky enough to get to play with the gentleman who had the rude shot of the week.  It was very "rude" like because it ended up being a really good bogey on #17.  Ron Mitten hits a shank on the 17th hole behind a tree sitting down in a massive hole.  He made the point to find us and show us his lie and trust me, it was bad.  I am very surprised he could get a club on it, let alone hit it over the tree into the bunker.  Ron gets up to the sand shot and is praising about his shot and says "Don't screw this up now" Ron skulls his bunker shot into the next bunker and then holes his sand shot for a 4.  Very tough to watch but nonetheless, great bunker shot.

WINE'R of the Week - Chris Floyd - Bottle of Wine

Sweet 15!! Getting Closer

With another mediocre finish from Gone With the Wind - Captain Mark Fisher called a closed door team meeting for his team this morning at 5am - Just before the start of the 1st round of the Ladies US Open.  Fisher was quoted by saying "We can't keep playing like this boys"! GWTW feels a little bit like Jack Nicklaus at the Canadian Open with their recent string of 5th place finishes.

Some mentions from last night - Turner with his -2 round of 34, Inspired by Mr. Wehrle's performance on Tuesday.

Chris took home the 2011 Canada Day Classic Championship with a -6 round of 64 at Springfield on Tuesday.  Quoted was Adam Tobin by saying" That was one of the nicest rounds of golf to watch, he should have been 60"  Nice round of golf!

Latta with his eagle 2 on #7 - great shot

Steve Aho, coming out of his funk with a great score of 38 - must have been the "chat" Steve!

Here are the Results for Week #9 -

Low Net – Steve Aho / Ed Nelson (29) - Great Score Paul Flack - Honorable Mention net (30)

Low Gross - Greg Zybala (35) - T - Dawg great 34! Had 5 one putts - ohhhhhhhhhhh!

1st - Weapons of Grass Destruction (272) - We have seen these 2 teams at the top before!

1st - Land Sharks (272)

3rd - Wasted Wednesdays (274)

Closest to the Pin #5 - Bob Reid (1 foot, 9 inches)

Closest to the Pin #8 - Alan Tayor (5 feet, 8 inches) - Adam Tobin almost had the course drinking when he hit it on the lip - still do not know how it didn't go in.

Longest Drive #6 - George Holmes - Did you make birdie??

Taylor Made Shootout Qualifiers - Bob Reid / Alan Taylor

Rude Shot of the Week - I had a nomination for the rude shot of the week that I thought was well worth it.  Jimmy Latta, I mean we all know his rounds of golf this year - 32, 33, 33, 33, the odd 40....last night he was teing off around 530pm as I was walking down the 9th hole.  Jimmy made a smooth double bogey on the 1st hole making the rest of the 8 holes a little tough to get into the zone.  Latta riled off 5 straight pars until he got to 7 - most likely hitting driver on 7 because of the par on the drivable 6th - Drove it into the greenside bunker and holes his 2nd shot for an easy eagle 2.  Great skin buddy.

WINE'R of the Week - Wes Hodgson - Bottle of Wine

Getting a Little Tired....

Seriously Gone With The Wind, enough is enough.  We all know eventually it has to hit rock bottom, but GWTW has been in 1st place from Week #1 through Week #7.  The have been very steady when it comes to team placement through the week and they have al their players contributing evenly.  They are getting a little worried with teams coming right up from the bottom chasing the 1st place spot.  Regardless, there will be a tight race once again for the title of 2011 Men's Day.

Here are the Results for Week #7 -

Low Net – Ian Shipp (30)

Low Gross - Ross Eisele (35)

1st - Land Sharks (282)

1st - Extra Stiff Shafts (282)

3rd - Gone With The Wind (286)

Closest to the Pin #14 - Brian Lee

Closest to the Pin #17 - Ian Shipp

Longest Drive #18 - Brent Taylor

Taylor Made Shootout Qualifiers - Brian Lee / Ian Shipp

Rude Shot of the Week - There was a tie for the 1st time in the history of rude shot of the week last week.  Mark Fisher and Scott Murray both had some pretty rude shots.  Scott Murray on #13 heeled his tee shot into the gully, chunked his 2nd shot to the top of the hill and proceeded to skull his 3rd chip to the top of the green, watching it back track into the hole for an easy birdie.  Great result!  Mark was actually playing with me when he borderline shanked his tee shot into the trees on 17, somehow getting a kick out to just before the cart path.  Evaluating his chip shot to a short sided, downhill green was not easy.  I walked by and said "Mark, you got this shot" he gives it the old "I know I do" and chips it in for a great 2.  Great shots gents.

WINE'R of the Week - Dale Hughes - Bottle of Wine

We will see everyone next week - our shootout is going to be a beat the pro contest on #8.  If you hit it closer then the professional, your name will be entered into a draw for the pot.  $5 a shot.....should be some good laughs after what we saw during opening day with us Golf Pro's.

See everyone next week!

Adam
