Welcome to the Women's League 2010 Season

New Standings

Sep 15, 2010 | Posted by Pro Shop Ladies

Hello Ladies,

As you know there is only one week left in ladies league for the 2010 season.  We have been informed over the past week that there was a problem with our system counting participation points which has led to my delayed blog posting this week.  I wanted to make sure that we solved the problem and that the statistics were correct before I stated the teams that are leading going into the final week.

The issue we were having was that our scoring system was set up so that 4 scores must be counted in order for the teams to receive any participation points.  This means that for our six fun nights, no participation points were counting toward the final standings.  To fix this problem, Chris and I went back into the system and changed each of those six weeks so that only one score needed to count in order for the participation points to count.  We changed the point system those weeks to zero points for a win or tie.  This allowed only participation points to count.

With this change we needed to have one score count each of the fun weeks for participation points to count.  We then went through those six weeks, looked at the players who came out and determined a score for one player per team based on that players "average handicap" as shown in the online system.  This way the handicaps remained the same. Each player was then chosen so that they would purposely beat the opposing player.  We tried to use different players each week.

It worked out that every team would gain three more losses and three more wins. We paired up the same teams for each of the three weeks, remember that no points were allocated for a win or tie.  The standings are now correct in the system going into the final week.

Good luck tomorrow ladies!

Not the correct solution to this problem. Disappointed in this, now leaves everyone who made the special effort to come out and support their team for the last few weeks with a sour feeling . What a shame that the season ended on this note.

Totally agree with the last comment. All season long we have been watching the board and working towards victories and now suddenly they don't count? Teams get victories added in the last week of the season. Does not seem to be the correct solution to the problem at all. Definitely need to have a better format next year or there is no point in having teams!

The problem is 2 teams with 13 girls and 4 teams with 12 girls ... this does not make for a level playing field. A simple calulation of 1.08 added to the participation points for the girls with 12 on a team would make for a level playing field. Participation poins and uneven teams are the concern, not the wins .... they were 100% correct. How did the wins get messed up? You need to go back to the drawing board on this one!

Only Two Weeks Left! What???

I can't believe that another summer has come and gone.  I also can't believe that I wrote this entire blog only to delete it right before I hit "post" for the second time this year.

Let's try this again...

Last night was James Bond 007 theme on the patio where seven of our favorite meal items were served.  I know that Amy Peters was happy with her shrimp quesidillas. As far as golf went yesterday, the thunder struck and most of us were unable to play.  In order to keep it as fair as possible, we put everyone into the computer who played yesterday as a "DNF" allowing those who were not able to finish get participation points. Prizes were awarded to the ladies who were on the patio by drawing names out of a hat.

Many prizes were awarded yesterday, but I wanted to mention the closest to the pin winners even though we didn't give a prize for that yesterday because only a few ladies were able to play; Denise Salvian, Trudy Vickers and Natalie Abelha. Congratulations ladies for three great shots.  Someone named "Cravin Morehead" was also on the closest to the pin sheet, but I'm pretty sure it was a man as most ladies wouldn't be cravin' that!

With the closing banquet in two weeks, we're going to need some serious golf out there in order to get a first, second and third place team.  The Margarita Girls and The Eagles are in a two-point match for first with Diamonds in the Rough and The Sharkettes following closely behind.

Good Luck Ladies.

Hopefully we see all of you next week for the fall themed "all about apples" night.  Don't forget to sign up for the closing night dinner as well as our silly season!

Gil.
