Welcome to the Women's League 2010 Season
Ladies Day ScrambleJul 30, 2010 | Posted by Pro Shop LadiesLast nights putting competition and scramble proved to be a huge success. Several ladies came out to compete in the different challenges on the putting green while others arrived after to play in a four player team best-ball tournament on the front 9. Thank you so much to Dora Crawford for the delicious cookies on the golf carts and Carol Haggerman for providing some prizes. Putting Contest Each team captain last night was responsible for a station on the putting green where they would have the ladies putt a different way. Jenn Wood and Kim Westaway were the winners in my group where you had to put a balloon between your legs and putt backwards through your legs. They won a golf lesson at the GPC from Mark Wilson. Judy Conran clenched a victory on the putting green last night as well, winning a putter for the longest putt. Stay tuned for another putting contest in August - 3 putters are up for grabs!!! Scramble I unfortunately did not play in the scramble last night as I had previously committed to another round. I can honestly say that it looked like everyone was having an absolute BLAST! I have never heard so much laughter and excitement out on the golf course. There was a tie for first place between Mary Warnock and Thressa McDermott, Cathy McQuinn and Michelle Loucks. These ladies each won a box of balls. Closest to the pin on #5 was Barb Carter and on #8 was Leasa McKenzie. Closest to the pin in two shots was Sandra Macovick on #1 and Michelle Scott on #4. These four ladies each won a Nike golf towel from the pro shop. Prizes tonight were donated by ladies league. Correction from Last Week Last week I made a mistake on the blog; Donna Murray was low gross with a 41. Sorry for the error Donna. Congratulations for an outstanding round and keeping up with the Professionals out here! See you next week girls, Gil.

Taste Local! Taste Fresh!

Is it just me or does ladies league get better each week?
Last night in between holes 10 and 18 were the ladies from Oakidge Acres Country Meat Store handing out BLT sandwiches that were absolutely delicious! I guess eating local does taste better! Oakridge Acres is located at 2132 Greenfield Rd. in Ayr. There are flyers on the patio as well for the 7th annual "Taste Local Taste Fresh" culinary showcase that they will be participating in on September 19, 2010 in St. Jacobs if anyone is interested.
On hole #18, Sandra, Sharron, Donna and Liz had the ladies hitting into a hula hoop off the tee as well as painting a beautiful flower painting that's out on the patio. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Rule Tip of the Week
A very simple rule out on the course that came into play last night in my group was the red stake/yellow stake debate. What's the difference? I'm sure everyone at some point on the course encounters this problem. Adam Ferraro, CPGA Rules Official enlightened me with his knowledge of the game by clearing up the difference this morning (can you tell that he told me to write that?).
When the ball goes past a red or yellow stake there are three options that are the same; you can always play the ball as it lies, take the shot again from where you originally hit from encountering a penalty stroke or drop the ball from the line of entry in which it entered the hazard keeping your ball in line with the pin. You can go as far back as necessary. The difference is that from the red stake, you can drop your ball two club lengths from where you entered the hazard, no closer to the hole.
Yesterday's Winners Were:
Wendy Griffen - Closest to the PIG #11, sponsored by Barb Watson
Donna Dasilva - Closest to the COW #13, sponsored by Barb Watson
Sally Larente with an outstanding closest to the pin on #14, sponsored by Mary Warnock
Low Net this week ended in a 6-way tie between Sue Howard, Lourds Melo, Dora Crawford, Rita McEachnie, Sharon Lau-Wiffin and Tierney Bjorkenstam!
Low Gross ended in a 3-way tie between Cheri Doherty, Denise Dennomme and pofessional vacationer, Jenn Braid.
Congratulations Ladies! Can't wait to see everyone out next week.

Aussie Tucker Night

Hi Ladies,
I hope everyone had a great day yesterday. We got lucky again with weather as the rain was delayed until after we were all off the golf course.
This week I thought that I would write a bit about etiquette on the course. Etiquette is so important to the game of golf, regardless of who you are playing with. A couple tips to keep you ladies on your best behavior out there include;
1) Consideration of Others: This includes not speaking and standing still while others are hitting. This may be difficult in ladies league because, lets be honest, we love to talk!
2) Sand Shots: After hitting a sand shot close to the green, tap your club on your shoes to get the sand off so that you aren't carrying the beach onto the green with you. This is a great tip courtesy of Mike Skimson.
3) On the Green: Do not stand or walk in another players line of putt. When you are finished the hole, replace the flag stick carefully and mark your scores on the next tee rather than on the green.
I hope these help and make your rounds that much more enjoyable.
Yesterday's winners:
Low Net (sponsored by Mark Wilson): Lisa Schneider with 29
Low Gross (sponsored by Mark Wilson): Katie Erie with 37
Closest to the Pin #5 (sponsored by Nanette Jozwiak): Rosemarry Wehrle
Closest to the Pin in 2 Shots #2 (sponsored by Michelle Loucks): Nanette Jozwiak
Congratulations Ladies!
See you next week,
Gil.

Feelin' Hot Hot HOT!!!
Jul 9, 2010 | Posted by Pro Shop Ladies
Ladies, yesterday was hot and sweaty but what better way to spend the day than on the golf course! I don't know about the rest of you girls, but I am forming a serious sock tan line this summer.
The winners for yesterdays round were:
Judy Conran, closest to the pin #4
Michelle Charles, closest to the pin in two shots #11
Sally Larante, longest put #12
Lisa Schneider, low net
Chris Grassing, low gross
Nanette Jozwiak had an EAGLE on #18 last night, winning her the very first Hot Shot of the Week award!
Congratulations ladies!
While I was playing yesterday, my skills on the slopes at Whistle Bear were tested a couple of times inspiring me to write a golf tip in today's blog about how to hit on a sidehill lie.
With the help of our head pro, Chris Wehrle, here is a quick tip that should help you when hitting off a hill; If you are a right-handed golfer and the ball is below your feet on a hill, aim left as the ball will go right upon impact. If you are a right-handed golfer and the ball is above your feet, aim right. For lefties, aim the opposite way. If the ball is below your feet, aim right. If it is above your feet, aim left.
I hope this helps!
Gil.
